On Jesus, BooHoo, and Spending Money
Since people seem all to eager to prescribe EXACTLY what Jesus would do with his money, in almost every thread about people spending money, I thought I would respond with actual Christian theology of what Jesus would do with it. (Especially re:the story about the man who bought movie tickets with it.)

Deuteronomy 15
10 Give generously to him and do so without a grudging heart; then because of this the LORD your God will bless you in all your work and in everything you put your hand to. 11 There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your brothers and toward the poor and needy in your land.

Mark 14

Jesus Anointed at Bethany

1Now the Passover and the Feast of Unleavened Bread were only two days away, and the chief priests and the teachers of the law were looking for some sly way to arrest Jesus and kill him.
2"But not during the Feast," they said, "or the people may riot."
3While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of a man known as Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
4Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, "Why this waste of perfume?
5It could have been sold for more than a year's wages and the money given to the poor." And they rebuked her harshly.
6"Leave her alone," said Jesus. "Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.
7The poor you will always have with you, and you can help them any time you want. But you will not always have me.
8She did what she could. She poured perfume on my body beforehand to prepare for my burial.
9I tell you the truth, wherever the gospel is preached throughout the world, what she has done will also be told, in memory of her."

My position: If someone wants to spend $42,000 to show other people the sacrifice that Jesus made, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

2. Locking
Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

6. You may not start a new discussion thread in order to continue a current or recent flame war from another thread. The moderators have the authority to lock threads in order to contain flaming on a particular topic to only one thread at a time.

And from the main board rules:
Do not post duplicate topics that have already been posted.
