Does The Religious Right REALLY Think JESUS Is Pro-Death Penalty? |
|
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 03:18 PM by K8-EEE
Honestly, sometimes I think I will short circuit from Irony Overload in GWB America....the same ones boo-hooing at the Passion will vote for Cheerful Executioner GWB?
Does this make any kind of sense at all?

Jesus made it clear we shouldn't judge people so easily without looking at ourselves first.. but he never denounced the death penalty to people that deserved it

8. Actually he did in most of his verse |
|
Turn the other cheek, Forgive those that trespass, Let he that is without sin cast the first stone, Love thy enemy, etc. etc. Never once did he ever say killing another was ever acceptable. Every thing he said was forgiveness not vengence. Judge not lest ye be judged.

But never said "if someone wants to kill you, let him" etc
Turn the other cheek was merely saying.. if someone did something bad to you (which wasn't that serious) don't hold a grudge

in the Garden of Gethsemane, when the Romans came to get him, one of the disciples drew a sword to fight for him and Jesus told him to put it away.

|
What do you mean he never denounced it? Forgive them, they know not what they do....hypocrite, take the plank out of your own eye....let he who has not sinned throw the first stone, live by the sword die by the sword. Where did he say the Death Penalty was a good idea?? He was a victim of it!

Jesus didn't but the fundamentalist christians are all about the punishment. They need that big paddle in the sky hanging over them to help them act right.
Sick if you ask me.

It's like a form of schizophrenia, seriously, where you have a closed-loop argument for all your delusions.

I agree with you that the religious right would not appreciate Jesus' message of love and tolerance. There is very little of that in their message.

19. Being a fundamentalist has never |
|
REALLY been about following Jesus, except in a self-aggrandizing, sentimental way.
Their ministers tell them what to think, both in the sermons and in carefully chosen "Bible studies" that never get around to the passages that would make the typical fundamentalist's head explode.
That's why fundamentalists get all riled up about abortion (which is not mentioned in the New Testament) but vote against tax relief for the poor in Alabama (conveniently ignoring all of Jesus' and the Hebrew prophets' condemnations of the rich who exploit the poor).

21. Not to get in a heated discussion here, but |
|
I am from Alabama and I can tell you that tax reform actually had little to do with helping the poor. There were a whole lot of problems with that whole reform bit. There are far better ways to assist the poor.

24. didnt do anything to help the two others being killed with him |
|
and they even commented on how they had it coming while he did not.
scripturally, no problems with the death penalty.
turn the other cheek has to do with your personal reaction to "trespasses against you" as opposed to society.

|
When the thief said, "Jesus, remember me when You come into Your kingdom."
Jesus answered him, "I tell you the truth today, you will be with Me in paradise." (Luke 23:32-43)
He had the opportunity earlier to rat on one of the theives they let go to save himself but didn't do it.

From what I understand, a good number of christians equate Jesus=God. Considering the god in the christian/jewish/muslim religions has kill/rape/mutilation/terror/etc counts that rival anything Hitler or Stalin could ever have dreamed of, yes he's a killer.

27. When Cain killed his brother, The Big Big Dog did not kill Cain. |

Just banished him.
Seems like there's a precedent there: the first murder, and the first punishment for murder, handed down by the highest court.

that gives them the freedom to do whatever they want and if they just ask for forgiveness and take "Jesus" into their heart they will be forgiven again and again.
I wonder if Jesus is in their heart when they are lusting for blood?
