Ohio religious group to publish a letter thanking Bush for supporting
the marriage amendment tomorrow in all major Ohio papers. Monday it will appear in the USA Today. It costs $2 million and will be seen by
18 million families. Can't religious groups lose their tax exemption when they make a political add?

5. Heard on ONN
It's called Citizens for Community Values, there are over 80 sponsors for it. Thanks, I just wondered?

9. I should have quested that it was CCV...
These people are right wing religious zealots of the worst kind. They have forced their "moral values" down everyone's throats here in SW Ohio.

2. Tricky issue . . .
Remember--Al Gore and Joe Lieberman campaigned IN a number of Black churches before the 2000 election. I think that's a pretty common practice for Democratic candidates. Probably best to leave that can of worms unopened.

3. Meanwhile, this is happening in San Francisco. . .
. . . while Democrats fall over themselves to pander to people who agree with the sign holder.

Somehow I doubt the party brass will do anything about the ad, certainly not spend $2 million to counter it. After all, it's about "electability," not our party's principles and what's right.

6. To be honest...
I don't see why a church couldn't take out an ad that they were willing to pay for. They have the same rights as any other group. It wouldn't be Congress establishing a religion or anything. I just don't think it is a good idea for America if the government starts saying who can take out ads and who can't, ya know?

8. Churches cannot endorse candidates
And they cannot donate money to candidates, or spend money lobbying (I think). But they can support causes with ad campaigns, publishing and distributing flyers, etc.

11. Some religious leaders took out ads opposing the Iraq invasion
I'm not sure what the tax status of their group was, although it was not a actual church, but a coalition of religious groups and leaders.

With any luck this ad will expose just how bigoted and nasty the people supporting the Marriage Discrimination Amendment are.
