How many million barrels of oil does the US use in one day?
Just curious.

A CNN report I just read, http://edition.cnn.com/2003/WORLD/europe/10/02/global.warming/ , claims there's only 3,500 billion barrels left. (in theory)

Makes for a cozy future. Corporate bosses ask in interviews "Where would you like to be in 5-10 years?" I can only say "hoping to find a replacement for oil because we're all dead without it."

2. Thanks
Pity it isn't 1 billion per day... the calculations are so much neater...

It also puts the 40 year estimate back on the board, so our children will hate us instead of being blissfully ignorant as to why their parents' worlds are now crashing in on them...

4. Oil use is currently growing at >4% per year
This is based on Deffeyes' and Campbell's analyses (see www.DieOff.com for a full range of articles). At 4%, doubling time is something like 25 years.

They also measured the historic average growth of energy use at 2.8% per year since oil was struck in Pennsylvania right after the Civil War.

So we don't have 40 years -- probably only 20-30, and substantial price increases should start happening within five years.

Super-high-viscosity crude oils, like shale oil and sand oil, require much more energy to process and we don't have efficient, workable technologies to get to the oil right now.

Just in time for election '08...

With no president until * truly addressing the issue until now, and with * addressing it much like he's addressed "No child left behind" (and having to pander to his oil buddies, which means no research of any kind will get done on a federal level so * shouldn't be seen as the first president addressing the issue), I wonder what will happen...

3. Let me cheer you up
that number is way too optimistic. World Oil and Gas jpurnal estimated that as of Jan. 2002 there were approximately 1000 billion barrels of oil in known reserves.

6. As Progresssive1 said, about 20, but don't forget the rest of the world!
Projections for 05 are about 85 million per day worldwide (and that's probably significantly low considering the rapid growth of so-called 3rd world countries)

7. World use is around 30 Billion barrels per year
30 into 1000. Even Wolfe Blitzer should be able to do the arithmetic.
