A lot of people on DU presume to speak for Jesus...
Is this any different than Bush? Jesus would have spent his money this way, Jesus would have spent his money that way, Jesus wouldn't wear Nike, he would have voted against the Iraq war without eating meat, he would have supported gay marriage, priests, and karaoke nights...

If so, who would Jesus look like today? Tom Daschle? Nancy Pelosi, perhaps? Ralph Nader? Don't make me use Photoshop!

3. All of the above sounds like what Jesus would do. I can't think of any
reason he would start wars and kill thousands of people. I don't think he would really hate gays, etc, etc.

6. His teaching were his actions.
He healed the sick, fed the hungry, and had a bleeding heart. Sounds like a democrat to me.

we play guitar together sometimes. he's not so big on the whole politics thing - tends to render unto ceaser that which is ceasers and concern himself with more immediate stuff like helping old ladies across the street and generally being nice to people. not that im speaking for him of course

5. Nah...it was just a rant
I'm done now. It's just that I see a lot of people-conservatives, libertarians, liberals, etc. ascribing their own incomplete political philosophy onto Jesus. It doesn't make much sense.

And I'm bored. I might use photoshop anyway.

7. Hmmm just a thought for you high moral folks
Seems a popular thing around here is pretending you are on a higher moral plane than anyone who may believe in him like only a believer can be a hypocrit. Your philosophy is hypocritical.

But thats just my opinion. Im sure your opinion will be on a higher moral plane. hehe just ask you.

10. 'Tis Mayor McCheese
Edited on Sat Feb-28-04 11:28 PM by Dob Bole
Alas, Mayor McCheese is no more. McDonald's got sued for copying him from an HR Puffinstuff character. But if it comes to it, I will be writing him in for President. He's a Democrat and former mayor of Playland.

9. No!!! What have I done? It was a rant, a stinking rant....
Yes, I believe in Jesus. Yes, Jesus was compassionate. I was just ranting at all the people who declare that Jesus would say ____(insert issue that I agree with here) because Jesus is clearly a (insert favorite modern political philosophy)

I also threatened to use Photoshop to make Jesus look like a Senator, to show how ridiculous this concept is. Above all, it was a rant. I was ranting. In a General Discussion kind of way.

15. Locking - Inflammatory
Rules to start discussion threads in the General Discussion forum.

1. If you start a thread in the General Discussion forum, you must present your opinion in a manner that is not inflammatory, which respects differences in opinion, and which is likely to lead to respectful discussion rather than flaming. Some examples of things which should generally be avoided are: unnecessarily hot rhetoric, nicknames for prominent Democrats or their supporters, broad-brush statements about groups of people, single-sentence "drive-by" thread topics, etc.

2. The subject line of a discussion thread must accurately reflect the actual content of the message.

3. The subject line of a discussion thread may not include profanity or swear words, even if words or letters are replaced by asterisks, dashes, or abbreviations.

4. The subject line and the entire text of the message which starts the thread may not include excessive capitalization, or excessive punctuation.

5. If you post an article or other published content which is from a conservative source or which expresses a traditionally conservative viewpoint, you must state your opinion about the piece and/or the issues it raises.

6. You may not start a new discussion thread in order to continue a current or recent flame war from another thread. The moderators have the authority to lock threads in order to contain flaming on a particular topic to only one thread at a time.

7. Discussion topics about the Democratic presidential primary are not permitted in the General Discussion forum, and instead must be posted in the General Discussion: 2004 Primary forum. Passing references to the Democratic primary candidates are permitted, provided that the overall topic of discussion is not directly related to the presidential primary or the primary candidates.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation,
DU moderator
