Poll question: What political affiliation do you have? |
|
I'm curious to see who at DU came here strictly as a Democrat, who began as a Green, who is a Republican with some liberal leanings who simply doesn't like Bush, or an Independent who favors any candidate other than Bush.
I guess I'm mostly glad that there are some here who started out as other political party but who have found common ground in trying to oust the current regime from office. It is always good to know that we're not all alone, and that despite the odds, all political parties have something that brings us together in unity for a change.

Ever since I saw grandma crying over JFK's assassination, age 8. Worked for McGovern when I was 16/17. Then I got politically lazy, but I am REVVED up now.

Every one in my family were Republican and I was not happy with the party and by the time Reagan ran I just up and left and started voting Dem. I think the Dem are a little right to me and I am on the list as Green. I do know the score and vote Dem for the big wigs. You know congress and President.I think I am what is called a Social Dem.as I believe the govt must over see some of the means of production and also aid in the inter structure of a society like ours.

I remember Dad voting for Nixon in '60 and not understanding why. I was 8 and we lived in MA north of Boston. Most of my schoolmates were Catholics and their parents were Kennedy people. I could never understand my Dad's voting habits and it led to some spirited discussions in the late 60's and through the 70's and 80's. He finally voted for Clinton twice, Bless him.

My dh has always been independent. At first, he leaned toward conservatives, but for the last several years, he's agreed with me but remained independent. This year he was unhappy that he couldn't vote in the Dem primary, so he's switching!

11. Used to be a liberal Republican, but supported many Dems. |

Bush's nomination convinced me that the party did not want a liberal wing.

I registered Republican 2+ years ago when I turned 18 but I missed the 2000 Presidential election and voted Democratic in 2002 despite m Republican affiliation (for Brad Henry for Gov., for David Walters for Senate, etc.). I had always considered myself a moderate or liberal Republican but after about a year of being a Republican in Oklahoma and in GWB's America, I gave that up and became a registered Democrat... As conservative as Oklahoma is, the Democratic party in Oklahoma is the only "moderate" party.
While I still greatly respect Olympia Snowe, John McCain, Susan Collins, etc., I have realized that they're not where their party's heading and I don't want to be a part of it.
Best, Mike
