Retaking Congress: Lets Pick-Off Wingnuts (aka the Bob Dornan Strategy) |
|
Edited on Sat Mar-20-04 12:59 AM by SC_Dem
I was thinking that we might have to get pretty creative in order to retake the House in '04. For me that means thinking of some out of the box races to target.
Here's the strategy I came up with: Pick off the wingnuts who are too conservative even for their conservatively drawn congressional districts. There aren't a lot of them, but they exist.
Here's the list(as far as I can see):
CO-6: Tom Tancredo WY-AL: Barbara Cubin MT-AL: Denny Rehburg

1. Bill Thomas, my Congressman, generously gerrymandered to me |
|
and my area in the last census. I beg anyone to come and run against him. There was not one opposition candidate in the primary. I wrote someone in. Anyone who likes Central California Wine Country, please I beg you to come and run against him. Bill Thomas is a dangerous incumbent in charge of a powerful committee, the Ways and Means Committee. Please we need someone to run against him.

He used to run in my district of W. LA a long time ago. He never got elected, but he had the most obnoxious group of supporters, who unfortunately used to habituate a restaurant I worked in. Rude obnoxious and cheap was the only way I could describe them. When he and entourage moved on to Orange County, all of us were relieved. Imagine how thrilled we were when Loretta Sanchez beat him out. I want the same thing to happen to Bill Thomas.

3. Add Stevan Pearce, NM-2 to that list.... |
|
He's a freshman (got Skeen's seat when Skeen retired), and a real wacko--he's not very visible--doesn't introduce many bills himself, but he's signed onto every nutball legislation that been offered. He really belongs with the Texas Republican caucus.

I actually think it helps Kerry that voters will want to elect a democrat to balance the re pugs. I could be wrong.
