Calling DU research minds: Let's prove Bush using terror to control
The Bush administration has to be the "luckiest" bunch of people alive OR they are using terror threats and the media to keep bad news about them knocked off the front page and the airwaves.

For example, Clarke is all over the front pages and "miraculously," we have a notice put out about possible terrorist attacks in at Texas oil refineries. Clearly, we have all noticed the trend. So, let's document it.

Fear is an amazing tool in the propaganda war. A frightened public doesn't think clearly or respond rationally. People will go to great lengths, even voting against their own best interests, in the hopes of feeling safe and secure once again.

We need to factually demonstrate to people that they are being manipulated and controlled through terror warnings and heightened alerts.

What I am proposing is that we create a documented timeline of incidents. For example:

Date
What is the bad news damaging to Bush coming out
links to news stories
Date
Subsequent terror warning or change in alert level
links to news stories
resolution — as many have turned out to be false or overhyped

Can we put our heads together and build this fact database in this thread?

1. This could be a board on DU it would show timelines of all the
false information floating around. Was it Waxman who did the 237 lies?

2. I wish I had more time to do this
I see it perfectly in my head. I think it would be a perfect tool and I know it would fly around the net fast a furiously.

We could put a tagline at the end:
A collaborative effort of DemocraticUnderground and get more likeminded people to join us.

Anybody?

7. Didn't Runsfeld admit to doing it?
At one time, I remember there being a lot of alarms coming soon after the Admin was criticized for not making every threat public. ISTR this was around the time Gray Davis announced that he had been told there were threats made concerning the Golden Gate Bridge. This led a reporter to ask Rummy if these alerts were the result of people complaining about threats not being made public, and he answered affirmatively.

10. Much appreciated
but it doesn't appear to be gaining any traction.

What happened to the giant brainstorming sessions we used to have where we would collaborate and piece things together?

<sigh>

Dean on Enron
February 8, 2002

(CNN) -- The General Accounting Office (GAO), the investigative arm of Congress, announced recently its intention to file suit against the White House to force it to release notes involving an energy task force headed by Vice President Dick Cheney. The fight for the notes began when the GAO requested them last summer and has heated up with the financial collapse of Enron.

George W. Bush is trying to rewrite the history of his and his family’s relationship with Enron Corp.’s disgraced former Chairman Kenneth Lay. So far, Bush has enjoyed fairly good success as the U.S. news media has largely accepted the White House spin.

WASHINGTON -- Just days before Enron Corp. declared bankruptcy on Dec. 2, announcing that it would not abide by severance payment promises to laid-off employees, the company gave executives "retention" bonuses totaling more than $55 million, according to an 11-page list obtained by Salon.

Dan Rather: Bush Issued Bogus Terror Alert to Cover Up 9-11 Bungle

"CBS Evening News" anchorman Dan Rather accused the Bush administration Wednesday morning of issuing an unwarranted FBI terrorist alert to New York City yesterday primarily to distract from questions about its handling of pre-Sept. 11 intelligence information.

Appearing on the "Imus in the Morning" radio show, Rather said he "believed" his network's report a week ago that the White House received a CIA briefing before 9-11 on possible al-Qaeda hijackings prompted the administration to issue the alert for political damage control.

"I can believe that the president and the people around him were surprised and peeved, to say the least," Rather contended, "that the information got out last week with report that President Bush had been briefed about some things that, in retrospect after Sept. 11, would indicate that, well, maybe somebody should have done something."

14. LINK to summary of Terrorist Alerts/Advisories - 1998-2003
http://www.emergency.com/2001/ter-advsry-sum.htm

WooHoo....

While jogging my (faulty at best) memory, and looking for various news stories, searching Google by month and year (very tedious), just came across this comprehensive list put out by the Emergency Response & Research Institute.

Babysitting my 2 year old grandson today, so my ability to devote time is limited to bits and pieces.

Thought I'd throw the link up here for anyone else working on this.

and it'll give it a :kick:
