2. I was just on..last caller before the 3 oclock news
before I had my brain cramp, I had it all planned out.....was going to tell Nate to come to DU for better informantion than he can get anywhere, and also to say hi to Bozita, who always starts a Nate thread!

however, I lost train of thought at the end

that said, I mentioned right off that Bradley's FIRST question to Condi should be to ask WHy TF she went back to the commission to correct her statement about the planes slamming into the WTC.

Nate didn't know about that, and I told him it was in Thursday's WashPost AND they talked about it on Capital Gang last night.

I commented on another caller's indictment of working people being stupid, saying they're NOT stupid (that's debatable), they're just VICTIMS of the media who won't report the real issues of the day, issues that affect their lives.

Then, I said that this administration has RUINED EVERTYHING.....wanted to call dumbo the Midas of Excrement, but you knw the FCC. anyway I said they've ruined the economy, the environment, education, screwed up the war on terror. Nate went off on his own tangent about that, agreeing wholeheartedly

I said the only thing they were good at was projection, lying, propaganda. Then I said specifically that they really screwed up the WOT by getting out of Afghanistan, mentioning that we have less troops there than cops in New York city. he liked that one, said he'd heard that before.

then, I had brain cramp and sounded like Reagan

So mad I didn't get the DU plug in first.

Nate spent a long time talking about an article re: General Zinni, in which he REALLY came down hard on the junta, focusing on a speech Cheney made in 02 in front of the VFW, which Zinni thought was insane; full of HUGE lies about the WMD threat

anybody know about that one?

might have been in Newsweek, but I missed the provenance

3. Good on ya, buycitgo!
Missed the show, but your synopsis was fantastic.. I think Zinni is our ace in the hole, if he comes out right before the election, it could be great.

4. thanks.....it was fun, til I went blank.....SO pissed I forgot DU
meanwhile, looking for Zinni/Cheney, I found this, which dovetails with the LYING pricks and how they always say one thing, then do another:

http://www.findarticles.com/cf_0/m0LIY/1_91/107759668/p1/article.jhtml
VFW officials angrily denounced a proposed VA budget that is nearly $2 billion less than what lawmakers promised earlier this year.

"The House leadership has deceived us," said VFW Commander-in-Chief Ray Sisk. "It is another instance where veterans--not the federal government by way of appropriating money--will be paying for their earned health care"

In February, the House and Senate passed a joint resolution (H.J. Res. 2) calling for a $3.4 billion increase in VA health care. But the House version of the 2004 VA appropriations bill (H.R. 2861), approved July 28, provides only a $1.4 billion boost. At press time, the bill had moved to the Senate for a vote. VFW officials want members to contact their legislators before VA's budget is decided in conference this fall.

5. Cheney's astoundingly cynical remarks at that VFW speech
as reported by VFW!

Vice President Richard B. Cheney used today’s Joint Opening Session as a forum to outline the Bush Administration’s case for ousting Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein (read the speech). “We will take whatever action is necessary to defend our freedom,” he said. “This nation will not live at the mercy of terrorism or terrorist regimes.” Under the “Bush Doctrine,” regimes that harbor terrorists are automatically deemed hostile, posing a grave threat.

Cheney said Hussein is amassing nuclear arms as well as chemical, biological and conventional weapons. He added that allowing U.N. inspection teams back into Iraq is pointless. “Saddam tested weapons quite literally under the nose of U.N. inspectors” in 1995, he said. Cheney described Iraq as perfecting the game of “cheat and retreat.”

Cheney explained a global “terrorist underworld” that includes 60 countries. Afghanistan was “only the beginning,” he said. As for Osama bin Laden, “If he’s alive we’ll get him, if he’s not, we already got him.” Cheney reminded the crowd of videotapes showing al Qaeda recruits training for war and testing chemical weapons. The former defense secretary said the Administration’s No. 1 priority is “to protect the American people against attack and win the war that began last Sept. 11.” He stressed: “The risks of inaction are far greater than the risk of action.”

The Bush Administration will work with VFW on homeland security and POW/MIA issues, Cheney said. “The nation remembers these men and this government will persist in its effort to account for every last one of them,” he said. Cheney noted a steady decrease in the VA claims backlog: “Every veteran deserves a response that is fair, respectful and prompt. You won’t receive excuses, you will receive action.” In that vein, Bush requested an 8% increase in VA health care and 7% more in overall VA spending.

Cheney received rousing applause when he addressed the recent controversy surrounding a federal court decision in San Francisco: “VFW stands firm for protecting our country’s flag and for defending the rights of every American who pledges allegiance to one nation under God.”

this is replete with Kerry campaign material, isn't it?

7. still looking
meanwhile

forgot that Zinni was middle east ENVOY when he said THIS:

"One of President Bush's top Middle East trouble-shooters warned Friday against war with Iraq, saying it would stretch U.S. forces too thin and make unwanted enemies in the volatile region.

Retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni, the president's special envoy to the Mideast, made some of his strongest comments to date opposing war on Iraq. Speaking to the Economic Club of Florida in Tallahassee, Zinni said a war to bring down Iraqi strongman Saddam Hussein would have numerous undesirable side effects and should be low on the nation's list of foreign policy objectives.

``I can give you many more before I get to that,'' Zinni said when asked if the United States should move to remove Saddam.

Zinni said the country should instead concentrate on negotiating a peace accord between Israel and the Palestinians, and on eliminating the Taliban in Afghanistan and the al-Qaida terrorist network that launched the Sept. 11 terror attacks."

no WONDER he got fired
http://www.everythingwrong.com/MTBeta/MTFiles/archives/2002_08.html

this is a great site, btw. very funny, also with a sound refutation of the giant lies Cheney started telling, perhaps, even, with this VFW speech:

And as for a flag for the Philippine Province, it is easily managed. We can have a special one -- our States do it: we can have just our usual flag, with the white stripes painted black and the stars replaced by the skull and cross-bones.

Twain got about as many laughs back then for that crack as he would today. Similar antiwar sentiments he expressed in another letter won him editorial heat from the New York Times. One fancies Twain might have ended up in the sights of Mrs. Dick Cheney's Thought Police these days. Perhaps Ari Fleischer would have told Twain to watch what he said; perhaps John Ashcroft would have snarled something about "the phantoms of lost liberty"; perhaps Mr. Dick Cheney would have muttered something out the side of his mouth -- something about "wishful thinking" or "willful blindness".

Ah, Dick. Chancellor Cheney. Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick, Dick. Gentle reader, you knew I was going to get around to Dick, sooner or later.

Cheney pimped for the Iraq war Monday at the national convention of the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Nashville, Tenn. Which is no small irony; the VFW had its roots in -- surprise, surprise! -- the aforementioned Spanish-American war, the mother of all media-manufactured wars, which, as the 73-foot-tall granite dick in Union Square attests, birthed our present whoreson Empire.

But what of Little Dick? What did he have to say?

Let's ignore for now Little Dick's utter gall, to stump for war in front of the VFW when he's long since confessed that "other priorities" -- whatever they were -- kept him out of Vietnam. Let's do our best to suppress our laughter when Little Dick tells a roomful of vets that our alleged president, who went AWOL for at least one year after his Pappy got him into the National Guard, is a Commander-in-Thief that "every soldier and every veteran can be proud of. ..." Let's set all that aside. Let's look at some of the really big lies that came out the side of Cheney's craw.

Big lie #1: "In Afghanistan, the Taliban regime and al Qaeda terrorists have met the fate they chose for themselves." If Little Dick means that al Qaeda chose to slip across the border and set up shop in Pakistan, he's not telling a lie. If he means to imply that we somehow "won" in Afghanistan, he's full of it. It's been almost a year since the Sept. 11 massacres and we have yet to find Osama bin Laden. Seven pages of transcript and Osama's mentioned once. Report after report tells us that Osama and the gang are alive and kickin'. As for the pile of rubble we invaded, Little Dick says "Afghanistan was only the beginning of a lengthy campaign." Note the false use of the past tense. As if Afghanistan is over. At last report, the interim leader we installed can't even trust his own countrymen to protect him from harm. Karzai has to be guarded by American centurions and has trouble extending his authority outside Kabul. Rubblestan is still on the verge of collapse into warlordism -- if it ever left.

6. yep, supporting our troops by cutting off their healthcare
just S.O.P for these assholes. Good to see Clarke on the front page of Newsweek, though. I think he will handle Russert handily.

8. I'm betting Russertpiglet will hit him harder than ANYBODY he's ever done
combine that with a withering response with the iying liars he's assembled for the response coming after Clarke's appearance

combine THAT with the media doing a hatchet job similar to the one they did with his testimony: showing the most damaging QUESTIONS, like Lehman's "credibility problem," without showing Clarke's responses

media hoes WANT Clarke destroyed just as badly as does the junta

9. It is especially sickening when CONDI is the biggest liar!!
And the fact that she can walk by a microphone and say whatever is off the top of her silly little head and be BELIEVED, yet Clarke is under oath and American Pravda calls him the liar. Scares the shit out of me, truth can no longer set you free.

10. couldn't agree more......and it's ALL the media's fault
this admin is the WORST, by faahhrr, in HISTORY, proving that over and over, and the media continually disgraces itself by fawning over these losers

well, they're going to really get to eat it bigtime in the next few weeks, as the extent of Condi's complete and utter combination of incompetence and mendacity is revealed to the world, despite their active complicity in making it seem as if she has even the SLIGHTEST clue as to what she's doing

what a sad joke they've played on this

BTW, I'm starting a thread on another unsung hero: Zinni, himself!

wait til you see the ironic first installment, and his presciently ironic quote on the chimp, his 'boss' at the time
