2. He was not!
He lobbed good questions to Clarke and gave him the opportunity to refute everything from last week. Clarke WANTED the questions Russert asked so he could refute them. For example, the opening thing from Frist's remarks. Clarke very confidently said in so many words, let's declassify everything and see who's lying.

3. Russert has been pretty subdued, actually
I think it comes from knowing the real answers. I think he now doesn't want to wind up looking like a jackass later when this all comes out. Because it WILL. Russert will still need a job afterwards, and he might actually want to salvage one tiny thread of credibility.

4. Clarke established himself today as a man of integrity
and exposed the WH for the spin, exposed them as liars, exposed them all..
he even exposed the Clinton bashing about the Blow Job, all the resources that were put into that, and the press covering it when Clinton went in to bomb Al Queda, and how the press called it wag the dog, which UNDERmined the attack on Bin Laden.
In other words, all those Clinton haters out there are also responsible for helping Al Queda . Including the press whores.
Clarke also stated that we had a window of opportunity to make peace in the Muslim world after 9/11...and Bush blew it by attacking Iraq.
God bless Clarke.
Bring my kid home now.

23. Man, every time they try to put Clarke on the hot seat, he just
turns up the heat, back on THEM. I saw it this morning. Set my alarm to make sure. He was BEYOND BRILLIANT!!! Richard Clarke is MY hero. If he were here right now, I'd give him a big hug!

In fact, Russet gave Clarke whole hour to refute the attack and make his most important points about Iraq.

And I sent e-mail. It is better to thank MTP since they will take such 'moderate' response more seriously.
Remember Clarke said we should bring back civil discourse to this issue.!!

Well, two of my favorite lines from Clarke.
'Clinton did some, Bush did nothing.'
'Attacking Iraq is attacking Mexico after 'Pearl Habor'.

And I thanked him for a civil interview also.

My last three e-mails to Timmy have been nasty. Usually, I criticize him. I think he did well today.

12. I did. Doesn't the truth have the most wonderful ring to it? "You shall
know the truth, and the truth will set you free." What a brave man. I don't know if I could have placed myself before a pack of mad dogs like he has done. Bless him.

Sirs,

nice job

you going to treat the republican operatives the same way when they come on?

Russert said he'd give time to Clarke to discuss the War on Terror, vs. the Iraq incursion

he gave him three minutes at the end

at long last, MTP, have you no shame?

and, when is Russert going to get treatment for all that potentially dangerous flatulence building up in his swollen, corpulent midsection.

he looks like the Graf Zeppelin! ouch!

And something else you said -

all those Clinton haters out there are also responsible for helping Al Queda . Including the press whores.

We should NEVER forget this - the WHORE MEDIA is responsible for all the deaths of 9/11 and our soldiers in Iraq. They have blood on their hands and we should never give them a free pass - EVER!

16. my letter, Mari333
Mr. Russert,

I admire journalists first among all professions. In my first book, I chose a journalist as my protagonist. It is a noble, relentless, often dangerous, and overlooked art.

That is why it sometimes pains me to watch Meet The Press. Mr. Russert, propaganda is not only what we are told that is not true, it is also what we not told that is true.

The smears against Mr. Clarke are untrue. Yes, you are correct to cover them anyway, but the time you devote to covering them is part of your art. You spent far too long on that today. Still, that would have been acceptable, but what you did not devote time to is the larger issue.

The fact the War in Iraq does not equal the War on Terror and that it has undermined the War on Terror is fact. You devoted 3 minutes to that and, as I am sure you remember, you moved Mr. Clarke along at one point. The points Mr. Clarke made are terrifying, Mr. Russert, and although they are obvious to so many of us in the citizenry, these are the points you do not choose to cover. These were also the points Mr. Clarke expressly wished to cover today.

I hope, Mr. Russert, that you someday share the urgency regarding the truth about 9/11 and the invasion of Iraq that so many of your fellow citizens experience.

We knew the war was based on lies before it happened. You and the press largely covered that up. You let The Bush Administration trick Americans into linking Iraq and 9/11, you let people like Judith Miller make easily disproven myths about WMD into fact, and you helped turn the American press into an international laughingstock. You helped start this war. You will carry that failure for the rest of your life. It will, I am afraid, be a heavy weight for you, Mr. Russert.

We are now in enormous trouble as a country and a species. You simply must do much better, starting now. This may seem like a game in DC and I'm sure a lot of it is a game, but on some levels it is not a game. This is one of those levels, Mr. Russert.

Are you not afraid yet?

Once again, my deepest respect and thanks for the excellent work you do some of the time. I can't imagine the behind the scenes and classified nature of the work you do. Some of this may be beyond your control. But we need you to do better, now.

Sincerely,
Eric Sisak

17. Clarke is a man of honor
AND dignity. That is obvious to every American no matter your political affiliation. You don't become a senior security adviser for FOUR Presidents if you are a liar and a cheat like the bu$h administration is trying to make him out to be. Clarke criticized the bu$h administration but the bu$h machine is out to smear and destroy Richard Clarke on a personal level and that is disgusting and Nixonian. . .

20. Here's what I just sent 'em...
Dear "Meet the Press" Folks,

THANK YOU for having Richard Clarke on the show this morning for the entire hour. THANK YOU for allowing him to say what he wanted to say without interruption and attack - Russert let him get his side of it out.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PURSUE THIS. He's given you several angles now. I hope you ALL, producers, writers, researchers, and the host, will look into everything he says, and everything his partisan attackers say against him, and expose the truth. Our country has been grievously ill-served by the Republicans, AND THIS WHITE HOUSE, IN PARTICULAR.

One thing, though. I'm noticing with some amusement that, every time Clarke brings up the "wag the dog" diversion tactic that the media fell for during Monica-gate, NO ONE questioning him follows up on that. Russert changed the subject. Just as Larry King did, and other interviewers on other networks and news programs have. Could it be that you folks hope to avoid your own complicit role in this, because you took the "wag the dog" bait and ran with it, years ago? And maybe, JUST MAYBE, you're finally realizing it, as uncomfortable as that realization may be? Richard Clarke has issued a public apology for failing the 9/11 families. Will you in the media follow suit, for failing to hold the partisan Republican attack-dogs accountable?

Judging from the reaction of the 9/11 families to his apology, his nobility, and his integrity, it would seem that owning up is now not only noble, but THE thing to do...

GUYS, NOTE MY SIG LINE (YES, I'M SHOUTING NOW!) FIRST THING MONDAY MORNING!!! DEMAND FULL DISCLOSURE AND FULL ACCOUNTABILITY!!!
