Need somebody’s help in locating a prize - the equivalent of a Pulitzer, Peabody, Polk - that is bestowed to recognize the pinnacle of self-delusion.
It is urgent to locate such a prize because the prime candidate, O’REILLY’s column linked below, just cries out for such recognition to the point of being self-satire. In fact, it has been suggested that this is actually something from “The Onion”.
O’REILLY is making the incredible claim here that there are “some journalists” out there who are betraying their journalist credentials by being partisan activists. Gasp. And (cough).
O’REILLY - who claimed for years to be an Independent, while he was a registered Republican; who bases his claims of deviating from wingnutism by supposedly being pro-environment and anti-death penaly; who has never met a Shrub act/word/deed he hasn’t flogged; who claimed he did a hardhitting interview of Ahhhnuld because he playfully chided him about owning a Hummer while claiming to be pro-environment - yes, THIS O’REILLY, looks out for us little guys by warning us to be careful about those unscrupulously partisan so-called “journalists”. It is just an accident that the only examples he cites are journalists who supposedly lean Left.
If no such prize for self-delusion exists, a good name for it ought to be “The Bernard GOLDBERG Prize.”

O'Reilly says some journalists have turned into political activists (NYDN)
http://www.nydailynews.com/news/ideas_opinions/story/178194p-154963c.h... .... What I'm not wrong about is that more than a few so-called journalists have turned into activists - people who are dedicating themselves to getting a certain party or person elected and are using their positions in the media to do it. ....
.... But let's face it, with the rise of entertainers like Rush Limbaugh and other radio talk-show people who openly root for the Republicans, those on the left feel they are at a disadvantage. ....
So, you as a news consumer should know American journalism is becoming increasingly partisan, and ideologues on both the right and the left have infiltrated the news business at very high levels.
But remember this: Passionate news analysis is one thing, but abusing the public trust is quite something else.
