Someone is jamming Air America in Chicago!
I can't get a clear signal! Some Christian station!

1. What are the Christian station's call letters
They have to announce these at least on the half hour.

Write a letter and complain to the FCC. Interfering with commercial broadcasters is taken very seriously.

2. AM reception at night....
...is flaky -- stations a thousand miles away can be louder than one twenty miles away.

There's little deliberate interference, because there are dollars involved.

11. Though with lower power stations
Interference can occur inadvertently, and depending on the coverage is actionable with the FCC.

I know of a case here in LA - alternative station KXLU is suffering from interference from an evangelical station that just upped its power. They are trying to get their listeners to mail the FCC, with specific times and locations the interference is occuring, in the hopes the FCC can force their power down.

I understand what you are saying about night time reception though. With AM radio that's just the breaks. Works the other way though - now someone hundreds of miles away might get your Chicago station.

6. No night time stream
Apparently they are not streaming the overnight repeats. Too bad, I missed most of Al Franken's show this afternoon -- damn you work! ;-)

At least they have a real website up now.

8. 950 Is Directed At The Zebra Mussels At Night
I'm in the NW burbs...near Woodfield and couldn't listen while driving tonight.

The transmitter is also located on the Illinois-Indiana border...60 miles from here. During the day, it transmits from an old building near Comiskey Park.

At night, unless you're right along the lakefront, it's gonna be real noisy. But during the day it's very clear everywhere I've been today.

9. Directional signal at night
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 12:14 AM by RatTerrier
Day:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WNTD&service=AM&status=L&hours=D

Night:

http://www.radio-locator.com/cgi-bin/pat?call=WNTD&service=AM&status=L&hours=N

Signal probably gets too much interference after dark.

Ahhh...AM radio. Gotta love it. Just tonight, I was listening to some nut who hates ALL political parties. On a station from Nashville. In Wisconsin.

12. This is an Old station...
Actually the first licensed to Chicago...for years it was a great daytime R & B station. I think Tom Joyner got his start there.

The night signal is actually more powerful than the daytime, but since it's directional and located in such a bad location, most of the metro can't hear it, but if you're in Marquette, Michigan, I'll bet it comes in just fine.

Since the FCC deregulated night signals, AM reception of the nearest or strongest signals is a real pain. I've got a Grundig Yacht Boy...it's about 149.95 at Radio Shack that is pulling in the signal very nicely...and very portable as well.

Here's hoping they can swing a deal to get the replays on some large signals at night...what else are they running?

10. They power down at sundown.
6:00 PM tonight. Probably will be later tomorrow - I think they adjust by the month. I live 15 miles from the city and couldn't get the station after 6 tonight :-(

16. You're not alone
I can't get it here in Los Angeles. Oh well, I'll have to wait until they can afford more powerful transmitters and get off the AM band.
