President Clinton did not send troops to Somalia
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 08:26 AM by The Lone Liberal
President George H. W. Bush committed 30,000 troops to Somalia in 1992. I just heard some nincompoop on Cspan state that Clinton send troops to Somalia. Until the public gets the damn facts straight and quits listening to those who would rewrite history to their advantage; we, as a people will continue to follow blind in our ignorance.

1. They say what they want to be, and...
their audience believes what they hear because it makes them feel secure in their ignorance.

14. True
The media made a huge deal out of the Mogadishu incident and RepubliCONs in Congress almost universally demanded that we pull out... almost too bad Clinton caved in to their pressure, as we had Aidid on the ropes after that - he had shot his load and was spent. If we had stayed a little longer, we could have gotten him and been much more able to keep the peace.

But, who knows?

15. History Channel was showing the GIs body dragged this a.m.
Through the streets of Mogadishu. We saw that poor GI dragged through Mogadishu over and over, and we saw it again this morning on the History Channel. But the media will not show the brutal reality of Iraq, as they refused to show the Fallujah atrocities on tv. What explains this difference in coverage between Mogadishu and Fallujah? America should be able to see what Bush's lies have caused, but the corporate media won't show us.

5. We Need To Make The Comparison Loud & Clear
Falujah...Mogidishu...the Bush Connection.

Hell, let's put other things in nice little bookends...

WTC 1993 (if they blame 911 on Clenis, we blame this on BushI)...WTC 911...

Economic Recession 1989-1993...Economic Recession 2001-on going

The Rove machine is spinning out the lies at warp speed...and the charges get further and further from both truth and reality. Eventually all these charges and lies are going to pile too deep...but at over 6 months out from the election...let them fly....it'll toughen us for the big final two months when the game really counts.

9. And his budget surplus was a terrible thing
because it allowed him to spend money on social programs and still have money in the bank. He was so fucking evil. He even had that Vince Foster guy murdered

10. DIDN'T BUSH COMMIT THE TROOPS AFTER HE LOST
THE ELECTION? Leaving Clinton with his first mess to clean up.

16. Yes. Operation Restore Hope commenced December 1992
leaving Clinton a potential landmine which eventually blew up in his face as intended.
Regarding the pullout- I would be curious to see links to speeches by Rethugs in congress demanding we withdraw after the 'blackhawk down'. Hopefully some are still in office now and it can be used against them.

12. I got in an argument back when this happened
I was in Bernard's Surf bar in Cocoa Beach with some old high school buddies. Clinton was about to come into office, and I was one of his few supporters among my friends. I commented about how Somalia was a total mistake, and it's primary purpose was for Bush to cause trouble for incoming Clinton. I was trounced and ridiculed as being just a Clinton lover, and no president would ever even think of such a thing.

Maybe. Maybe not. But the Bush's are long-term thinkers. Poppy sent 'em in and left them for someone else to deal with, EXACTLY the reason Clinton said he decided not to attack after the Cole bombing...it wasn't right to start a war and immediately hand it over to someone else.

13. Same reason that Clinton didn't do anything about the Cole
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 08:56 AM by DoYouEverWonder
because it was Bu$h's responsibility to do something about it, since he was the one in office when the CIA/FBI finally decided it was al Qaeda. Instead he was making oil deals with the Taliban and giving them $43 Million of our tax money.

17. Just like the right wing blames Reno for Ruby Ridge
In fact, they use the nickname "Ruby Ridge Reno." They almost can't believe it when it's pointed out to them that it happened under George H.W. Bush's watch.

18. President Clinton Also Did NOT Start WACO!

That was another Bush fuck-up.

He sent agents into the compound filled with women and children when Koresh could have been picked up on the street.

20. If a caller did say that, then the moderator should have corrected him/her
They don't give their opinions, but when a statement is blatantly wrong, they should correct them.
