That would explain the INEXPLICABLE bump bush got at the end of last week. I was also wondering whether people just heard this stuff and decided to cling, ever more desperately, to their denial. This is an AWFUL one to have to face. Especially for people who sincerely believed that everything was on the up-n-up. It's mighty hard to admit you were wrong. Look how few people are willing to come forward and do it. Consider: when Jay Rockefeller announces he voted wrong on the Iraq war and he regrets it, it's a news story all by itself. What does THAT tell ya? And look at the mileage Clarke got by admitting "your country failed you," and "I have failed you." Made huge headlines. It'll be a buzzphrase heard around the world.
I am hoping - no psychic here, and of course I can get pretty lost in the Wishful Thinking Department, but I'm hoping that people are reading the book and it's starting to make them think. TONS of people are buying this book. It's not all for book-burning, you know. And even if only a few read it and wake up, maybe that's all it takes. A few here, a few there. Then they talk to their friends. The so-called "watercooler talk" that programmers and audience research people and pundits put such value in - can be a major indicator of people's true views.
Besides, has anyone seen posts here (I have) or heard people talking, along the lines of: "I just can't believe the president would..." Well, that's often indicative of a change-of-heart in the making. It's a sign that they're actually entertaining such a thought, as horrifying as it may be to them. Once they open the mental doors and let this stuff in, I bet it'll sit for awhile and fester.
I was hoping that maybe there'd be a delayed reaction that was more realistic. Perhaps this is an indicator of it. Not only that, but there's MORE stuff coming out, seemingly every day, that pokes holes in what Clarke's critics are blathering. Like the front page of the Washington Post today, about the foreign policy/national security speech Contradicta was PLANNING to give - ON 9/11 - emphasizing NOT terrorism at all, but rather - Missile Defense:
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A40697-2004Mar31.html The WASHINGTON POST on Thursday is planning an exclusive: On Sept. 11, 2001, national security adviser Condoleezza Rice was scheduled to outline a Bush administration policy that would address "the threats and problems of today and the day after, not the world of yesterday"
Revealed: The Condi Speech That Was Never Delivered on Sept 11
Oh, and one more thing...
NOTE MY SIG LINE! TODAY WOULD BE A VERY GOOD DAY TO FOLLOW UP...
