1. I knew as much when I heard they had automatic weapons in the car.
And one of them had some sort of DOD identification.

The fact that they were mercenaries does not lessen the horror of what was done to them. They are still pawns in the Bush White House's games (perhaps less so than our soldiers, though, since they have a choice in the matter).

But let's not let the WH cast this as poor defenseless civilians murdered by barbaric mobs. These people were apparently combatants in every sense of the word.

2. how were they killed?
haven't read all that much, but i wonder how exactly they were killed. these guys seem like they were highly trained. they must have been seriously ambushed, no indicators at all. i would think that they would have probably done some route recon and had some intel. then what kind of response when they got attacked? looked like they were all inside the vehicle(s).

4. If I remember correctly...
the reports said that men came up longside and tossed grenades into the vehicles, then sprayed them with gunfire.

This sounds like a group who knew exactly who was in that vehicle.

3. Yup, Illsa posted this too...
and we're talking about it here:

I'm glad others are picking up on this. The news reports make it seem like they were non-combatants -- some office workers or somehting -- instead of the highly paid mercenaries they were.
