so on 3/30 we have a terrorist bombing on a Tx. oil refinery and |
|
it drops from the news in record time.
on 3/25 the FBI warned Texas oil refineries that a terrorist threat was imminent. (see article at www.democrats.com)
I caught a quick glance yesterday morning of the refinery on fire and that's the last news I've seen on CNN. (I keep it muted) maybe other channels reported on it??
when I've been out and about I asked people if they had heard about it and the answer was no. I don't think they really believed me.
As soon as it happened the oil company said it wasn't a bomb just your normal oil refinery explosion.

1. Right, they reported "multiple blasts" |
|
...but said it was a "normal accident" that started in one of the ovens.
Yes, this one smells.

Have you ever driven by a bunch of petrochemical plants--perfuming the moisture-laden Gulf Coast air?
Seriously, these things do blow up all the time.

BP said the fire wasn't linked to terrorism. The Federal Bureau of Investigation said last week it had received information that terrorists may attack refineries in Texas. http://quote.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=10000006&sid=akW3CmDb4J0Y&refer=homeBTW, this is the headline: Gasoline Close to 18-Year High in New York on BP Refinery Fire

5. The 24/7 news outlets are so blatantly obvious |
|
Yesterday, we had the attacks in Iraq, the oil refinery fire in Texas and what did they focus on for hours? The missing girl from Wisconsin and the possible capture of her abductor. Hours and hours of nothing but that story. It's really pathetic.

8. Here are some articles about this |
|
Here is the FBI warning: http://news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story2&cid=1896&u=/nm/20040325/us_nm/security_energy_dc_3&printer=1Here is the report on the fire: http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2004-03-31-refinery-blast_x.htmOddly enough, USA Today does not mention the threat. To be fair, I've lived in Texas for 20 years and there is a refinery blast about once a year. Still, since there was a recent threat, it should be looked into.

9. And what about the chemical plant explosion this a.m. |
|
in Baytown, TX? Exxon plant has explosion - but no terror links. Where is the reporting? Don't these fires make good television? Certainly better than some empty looking intersection in Madison, Wisconsin?

13. Thanks for the link - from that article: |
|
"This is the second explosion at a refinery/chemical plant complex in Texas this week.
On Tuesday night, an ultraformer at BP Plc's 460,000 bpd refinery in Texas City, Texas, blew up and burned. The cause of that blast is believed to be accidental.
BP said the Texas City refinery was operating at near normal rates Wednesday.
The U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation warned refiners in Texas last week of an unsubstantiated threat to attack a refinery in the state before the U.S. national elections in November."

With the news about the contractor (Blackwater) deaths in Iraq, we should hire http://www.motherjones.com/news/feature/2003/05/ma_365_01.htmlBlackwater to protect the U.S. oil refinery industry. Maybe our tax dollars should be protecting the homeland.
