Clarke's Book in 8th Printing - No: 1 Everywhere

<snip>

So why has it shot up on the best-seller list--Simon & Schuster says it is in its eighth printing, with 650,000 books in print--when many Washington policy tomes sit gathering dust?

"It was chemistry," said Peter Osnos, president of Public Affairs Books, a non-fiction publisher. "It came at precisely the right moment."

The timing of the book's release could not have been better. Clarke's publisher, a division of Simon & Schuster, booked him on "60 Minutes" the day before it was published. Three days after his "60 Minutes" appearance, when Clarke testified before the commission investigating the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the storm hit bookstores.

"The first day of the hearings I sold all I had left," Hebben said. "It was the hearings."

Barnes & Noble says the book is No. 1 at all 647 of its bookstores. Borders reports that in its first week on sale, it outpaced "The Price of Loyalty," by Ron Suskind, a look at the Bush White House from the perspective of former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill. It also, in its first week, sold more than half of what Hillary Rodham Clinton's memoirs did in the same period--and "Living History" was a runaway hit.

'Deliver Us From Evil', that is. I hope Clarke's book outsells that of this liar.

4. You mean other than the mass purchases by certain sectors? I'd like
to know that, too.

3. i cannot believe it is only the
people that already know this stuff is the only one buying this book. so i have to say, others are buying and reading too. to go and buy a book means they are oen to other possibilities with bush. so i cant believe the poll showing that clarke is not effecting bush, further that clarke has just made bush more desired.

cool to see

5. also look for....
THE SACRED AGE OF TERROR by Daniel Benjamin. L.A. Times editorial has a wonderful editorial (3/30/04) by Mr. Benjamin from his book which backs up Richard Clarke's claims that the Bushies did not see terrorism as urgent nor a top priority. I'm gonna look for this book as well as get my copy of AGAINST ALL ENEMIES.

6. Age of Sacred Terror is in my stack of about a dozen books
I'm trying to slog through. I did a few days ago reference Clarke in the index, and this book does indeed back up what he says.
