21. Did we not a while ago...
sort of decide that Objective Ministries was also a satire?

A much more subtle one than Betty Bowers or Landover Baptist, but a satire nonetheless.

It's April first, peeps, get it together. We're being Punked.

22. Looks like LandoverBaptist.org has been hijacked!
When you go to it now, it links you to a fundie site (whose goal is to... "shut down" LandoverBaptist.org).

Guess whoever hijacked it didn't do a very good job of covering their tracks.

LandoverBaptist.org was always one of my favorite websites. I guess the fundies really couldn't handle it!

I have found lots of websites I hate. Ran across "IslamOnline.Com" the other day and it was pretty creepy - but pretty funny too. Check out a sample from their "Fatwa Bank" (warning - deals with nonstandard sex)...
http://www.islamonline.net/fatwa/english/FatwaDisplay.asp?hFatwaID=28770

= =

I believe hijacking websites is illegal. This needs to be reported to the authorities. You know, First Amendment and all.

8. Scary and threatening crap...
Satire is protected by the 1st Amendment you bloated bile and dung filled scumbags.

AMERICANS have the Constitutional right to mock thugs the like of Ashcroft, Cheney, and Bush.

Since when do they have the right to stop us? Why isn't whitehouse.org being mirrored elsewhere?

Stuff like this makes me livid. When dickless, chinless, bald assholes the likes of these guys can close someone down for making fun of them, we are all in danger.

Am I the only one who is outraged? Me and Howard Stern? I think I will write him about this.

12. Landover Baptist will be rescued
The Spirit will work quickly to protect the Godly folks at Landover Baptist. I predict the site will be back up by April 2nd. Same for whitehouse.org. The cybercrime link at the whitehouse.org site should be comforting as it's a message to let us know that our Godly Attorney General is hard at work and will rescue Landover Baptist from those weak namby-pamby so called Christians. Praise.

Get this unAmerican bullshit:

We have it on good authority that Attorney General Ashcroft will be targeting other Internet sites that spread religious hatespeech disinformation, using the same tactics that were employed in the recent Operation Pipe Dream.

 :argh: :grr: :grr:

So, as usual our brave Himmler, Heinrich A$$crust is up to his old tricks.

HEY DOUCHEBAG! TRY LOOKING FOR SOME TERRORISTS INSTEAD YOU DICK!

And there can be NO question:

http://www.cybercrime.gov is the same as "Operation Pipe Dream" in that we have ALL who visted this site (which was SELLING NOTHING ILLEGAL!) have been marked and remembered on that Free-Market Stalinist Fuck Ashcroft, who's FAKE SURGERY TO GET OUT OF TESTIFYING TO THE 9/11 COMISSION IS AS ODIOUS AS THE OILY WORM HIMSELF!)

We have ALL been marked, our Bushevik-Soviet Files updated!

 :grr: :grr: :grr:

Great evil is afoot in the world. Totalitarian Darklness and Ameikan Taliban descend on us.

They are COMING for us. IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME. This only cements my feelings on this matter as the days tick down to Liberal Internet Kristallnacht.

:nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke: :nuke:

Keep pushing Free America, you Bushevik Taliban Shitpiles! Keep pushing...

NOTE TO OHS THUGS: FUCK YOU, YOU BUSHEVIK TOTALITARIAN SOVIET ASSHOLES!

13. Naw, I think it's a joke
The redirects are done with META tags from the front page at each site, not with DNS remapping.

Chickenhead and LandoverBaptist are both still there, you can access pages other than the toplevel index:

http://www.landoverbaptist.org/index2.html
http://www.chickenhead.com/truth/

Whitehouse.gov is a little different -- instead of static pages like the other two, it serves dynamically generated pages (asp). So, for the duration of the joke, a call to any page will cough up a redirect to cybercrime:

http://216.239.53.104/search?q=cache:nks2cXFsTOwJ:www.whitehouse.org/+%22whitehouse.org%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8

:) When Ashcroft seized sites in his bong hunt, he actually shut them down. The webhosts were contacted and accounts were pulled so there was no content on the servers. He also had the registrars reassign the domain names to the govt, and the DNS names were remapped.

All addresses on the net are actually a string of numbers, called an IP (Internet Protocol) address. For example, DU's IP address is 216.158.28.196. Type that into your address bar and you'll raise DU. The reason you can use a domain name instead of a number is because the name you register is paired with the number and sent out to a bunch of servers called Domain Name Servers. The contents of these servers are mirrored all over the net, your ISP probably has a copy.

The domain names at Chickenhead, Whitehouse, and Landover are still valid. They're using other means to redirect you to Ashcroft's happy page.

On edit: Also, you should note that the content for Chickenhead and Landover is still there, you just can't go through the front page to get at it. Follow the links I posted above.

Whitehouse.gov is also still there, but it handles the redirects a little differently. The other two sites are just a collection of pages on their servers, ask for a page and it comes up. The Whitehouse site uses a database and something called Active Server Pages to create pages on the fly as you request them -- much like the way the pages in this forum are done. By changing the response to all requests to be a redirect, it creates the illusion that there's no content on the site.

18. WEll, if so, then I am a total April Fool!
Rather that than it actually be true.

This ones for ME:

Of course, that's if it does in fact turn out to be a joke.

Very bad taste, especially the redirect to www.cybercrime.gov

People have to be careful about their jokes in these volitile and scary times.

Ill-advised, if a joke.

23. Thanks for the info!
It's reasssuring to know that some of the funniest sites are still up on the internet.

To whoever said that this is "just" an April Fool's joke... Well, it's also a crime. On April Fool's day, you're supposed to just lie about something funny. Remember that it doesn't give you license to go out and commit actual crimes and say it was just a joke.

And to whoever said that Ashcroft might be behind this: All the better! If Ashcroft breaks the law, then he'll go to jail!

25. Kinda a strange thing for a site owner to do
I mean, it could be possible - but it would make more sense for the site owner just to have a LINK to the Christian site.

Doesn't it cost money to run a site? I'd hate to drive my readers away if I was paying for a site.

I'm definitely perplexed.

26. Why?
Pranks are their stock in trade. LandoverBaptist fooled a boatload of people into thinking it was a real Christian site when it first went up. Today's goofs were just for yucks, same as always with those guys.

Fark "hacked" its own site today, the front page was crammed with insults and denigration for Farkers.

Metafilter became a wiki, a hyper-hyperlinked melange of useless graffiti.

Google's got everyone scratching their heads wondering if their new GMail service is real or a hoax.

Everyone's having fun weirding out their visitors.
