Hey, I Like This Ed Shultz Guy
Breaking all the "liberal" stereotypes & pretty good sense of humor. Not a screamer, not a whiner, courteous to the callers - but still forceful, sharp, factual, colorful & conscise.

Where did they find him at?

2. Didn't know there was a liberal in the Dakotas, much less
a liberal radio host.

:)

3. Got him on Sirius Left.
Love most of what he says. Like I said before, he is anti-choice..and he thinks the words 'under God' could stay in the Pledge. Other than that, we agree.

8. Wait, did we determine
Is he actually anti-choice, or just personally opposed to abortion, as is Kucinich? (It may sound nuanced, but to me those are two different things.)

10. That's a HUGE difference
Nothing nuanced about it. it's all about respecting other people's choice, instead of legislating against it. kinda like gay marriage, the pledge, GUNS, smoking. All the wedge issues boil down to the same thing.

12. You know, Lisa, I'll bet he's only personally against it.
He doesn't sound like a guy who wants to return to the days of back-alley abortions for those who don't agree with him.

4. Not sure I will ever get to hear him
since hubby has the XM radio in the van and he won't let me listen to political stuff when we are together. *g* Still, am glad to hear the XM format is doing well.

5. Ed Schultz voice sounds exactly like Rush Limbaugh's
He came on right after Al Franken on 620 radio, and he's pretty good. Other people are getting Randi Rhodes after Al Franken, and I wanted to give her a listen.

I'm on the internet on that 620 radio. Where is Randi on the net?

19. I agree, complete with cadence and inflection
He sounds exactly like Rush Limbaugh. Man, that is funny!

I'm calling him Rush Liberaugh.

A dittohead friend of mine listened in and said 'yep, he sounds just like Rush but he's 100% wrong all the time'.

14. Better than Franken, IMO
Edited on Thu Apr-01-04 05:21 PM by democracyindanger
Before everyone jumps on me, that's not saying Franken isn't great. But this guy is a radio veteran, while Franken is still getting a feel for it.

This is where I read about Schultz being a former conservative:

http://www.keepmedia.com/ShowItemDetails.do;jsessionid=aOQVSHohGlt-?from=search&item_id=348736

(if the link doesn't work, go to http://www.esquire.com and search for 'ed schultz')

It's an Esquire article--unfortunately, it'll cost you $2.95 or a year-long subscription to read. But if you're interested...

"Man of the Month: Ed Schultz by Robert Kurson, Feb 01 '04
Who would have guessed the Democrats would find their own Rush in a thick-necked, trash-talking former conservative from Fargo?…

It's 1988, and an angry fan at a North Dakota state football game has just flung a whiskey bottle into the radio-broadcast booth. Most ordinary announcers would ignore the incident. But the man behind the mike this day is not ordinary. Understand what he does next and you will understand why he's not the kind of guy likely to turn up on NPR.
Ed Schultz—massive chest heaving, veins in his nineteen-inch neck throbbing—yells something like this into the mike for all of Fargo to hear: "Who the fuck did that? Who has the guts to point him out? Because ......"
