Marilyn Manson Photo Terrorizes Chimpanzee Population |
|
(AP-Atlanta) Zoo Atlanta’s chimpanzee population reacted violently to the sight of a full color poster depicting rock star Marilyn Manson. Manson’s image, shown in full makeup and gothic attire, was held against a glass wall that seperates the viewing public from the chimpanzee population.
Manson has jarred viewers’ sensibilities throughout his career through lurid, sometimes violent lyrics and an androgynous appearance. Parents who claim that Manson’s music drove their children toward anti-social tendencies have sued him unsuccessfully.
Local visitor, Travis Kensey, held the photograph against the glass wall for nearly five minutes until zoo personnel wrestled him to the ground, knocking away the photo and stomping it into the dirt. Kensey has a history of displaying disturbing pictures to zoo animals. Last year he was once arrested for displaying photos of film actor Clancy Brown to a group of lemurs. More recently, he was asked to leave the gorilla exhibit after displaying giant photos of ballet legend Mikhail Barishnikov’s feet.
Zoo officials were alerted to the disturbance by complaints from other zoo visitors and the chimpanzees’ violent screeching assault on the Manson image with hurled clods of dung.
Mr. Manson, a resident of Los Angeles, did not return calls for comment.
