Floridians: Letterman's "Yawning Boy" is Rich Crotty's son.
Father blames tiredness for son's yawning as president spoke

By MIKE BRANOM
Associated Press Writer

ORLANDO, Fla. — President Bush's pep rally didn't have the desired effect on young Tyler Crotty.

The 13-year-old has become a national sensation after being caught on camera yawning, fidgeting stretching and generally looking dead on his feet during a speech the president delivered in Orlando last month.

The clip was first shown earlier this week on CBS' "Late Show with David Letterman," then became news when CNN erroneously reported that the White House had protested.

While the talk show host, cable channel and Bush administration untangle who said what, Tyler is enjoying his moment in the pop culture spotlight.

"He's like Beaver Cleaver: 'Oh gosh, this is fun!'" Tyler's father, Orange County Chairman Rich Crotty, said Thursday.

According to the elder Crotty, Tyler, then 12, was very excited about the prospect of seeing the president on March 20.

So excited, he couldn't sleep the night before.

previous pro-Bush position. She said, "gee, I didn't know. My parents made me watch him everytime he was on t.v. They said I had to watch because history was being made."

Well, they got that right. I hope they're all still watching.

I can't help but be reminded of the time the grade-schooler showed up "Mr. Potatoe" Dan Quayle in a spelling bee.

I was pretty young during the Bush I regime. I only remember the spelling bee flap because it happened in my home town.

Actually it's pretty sad what happened to the "potatoe kid" he droped out of high school, fathered a child as a teen and was working in a low paying job. http://www.capitalcentury.com/1992.html

Does anyone believe that CNN "erroneoulsy" reported that the White House objected?

Yes, some CNN reports are better than others, but I don't believe CNN just decided to report for-the-helluvit that they had been contacted by someone at the White House who said the tape was fake (which it's not).

I believe CNN was contacted by someone at the White House.

He's pissed. He's made a complete mockery of Censored News Nightly.
Tommorrow he's having the kid on.

11. They've been talking about this for THREE DAYS
If they have to work this hard to cover Bush's ass on trivialities, the mind reels at what they do to spin serious issues in his favor.

Rich Crotty reminds me of the kind of Central Florida politico that has kept Florida "small minded."
