Is there anywhere to get an accurate U.S. death toll?
I can't seem to locate any sites that have the complete numbers. All help is appreciated.

1. No
I have heard it may be as high as 1100 !!! Apparantly this admin doesn't count soldiers that die once they have left iraq, as iraqi casulaties !!!

4. I don't think that is correct.
I know people have suggested that but if you look carefully at the sites I posted below, you will see that there are names of soldiers who have died in Germany, England, Kuwait, and the U.S.

12. Yes, and I'm one of those people that have suggested that...
...the numbers they're giving us are much too low. I don't give a damn what few numbers they're reporting outside of Iraq.

Here are a few thoughts to kick around...

-Americans are still dying and getting wounded in Afghanistan...where are those numbers being reported?

-Americans are dying and being wounded in Iraq every single day. Those that are killed outright are being reported as they happen. Some of the critically wounded that die in hospitals in Iraq and/or Kuwait, and/or Europe, and/or the U. S. But what of the other severely wounded Americans that die days or weeks later and are never publicly reported? The NeoCons refuse to allow the media to photograph the incoming flag-draped caskets. Why is that? Are they afraid that we'll find out the numbers of the dead are quite a bit larger than reported?

-How come the site in Iraq used to process the dead has hundreds of caskets neatly stacked and ready for use? How come reporters are not allowed to take pictures there, either?

15. ok , this is where i read it !!!
and it makes sense to me, but i'm cynical and bitter.
Also, what about all the suicides(some in iraq, some that happen here) ??? I wonder if they are included in the death toll???

8. I don't know what to believe about that
I didn't believe it at all for the longest time. But then I talked to a Vietnam/Gulf War vet who keeps in contact with a number of officers in the military. From the things he said, the number is over 1200 and I am now pretty confused about what to believe. I just wish I had been able to talk to him longer.

11. I agree, my only problem with the whole idea of it being more
(around 1200) than what is (barely) reported, is this: wouldn't at least some of the other 600+ families be outraged at not seeing their loved one on the list of dead?

13. They won't be on the initial lists coming out of Iraq because they're...
...the people that have been severely wounded that die later...days, weeks, or months later. It's my opinion that those Americans aren't being reported.

16. You should be aware that lunaville and pigstye use DoD reports.
Both sites are merely praise-worthy elaborations based on Department of Defense reports - they follow-up and confirm that the soldiers that DoD said are dead, are actually dead. Neither site provides independent verification that DoD reports are accurately including all casualties.

So, if one is skeptical that DoD is releasing ALL of the accurate information, neither of these sites will answer that particular skepticism.

But don't rely on my word - read from the Lunaville's methodolgy page:
http://lunaville.org/WC/Methodology.htm

Where the Death Numbers Come From

There is no magic to coming up with the number of coalition dead from our war on Iraq. Our sources are not secret. In fact, our primary source is the U.S. government. Any private individual or news organization who wishes to keep track of war dead gets their information from this same source.

Whenever a death occurs, CENTCOM (the United States Central Command in Tampa, FL) issues a brief news release that gives the bare facts about the incident: when it happened, how it happened, and the soldier’s regiment, if known. The only information not provided at this point is the soldier’s name. These releases are published regularly on the Internet at: http://www.centcom.mil/

After the soldier’s relatives are notified of the death, the U.S. Department of Defense then issues its own news release that gives the soldier’s name, age, unit and hometown. Again, these can be found on the Internet here: http://www.defenselink.mil/releases/

5. Buzzflash.com usually
keeps a link to a site called coalition casualty count. Scroll down a ways and you'll see it on the right. Of course who knows how accurate this site is, because it is the official count.

7. Thanks.
Ah, I was hoping someone was keeping track of those who didn't die in direct combat but died as the result of direct combat. They don't count it if you get air lifted out and die in the hospital.

9. Michael W. Vega was the latest to die out of the country at
Walter Reed Medical Center. He died on 3/20/04. They are being counted. http://lunaville.org/warcasualties/Details.aspx
