__Busheviks Plan Gay-bashing Attack on 'Bachelor' Clarke???

This is in today's Democrats.com Daily. I'm not sure the Boston Globe article is hinting that Clarke may be gay. (Go to the blog link and there's a link to the Globe article.) Does everyone automatically assume "gay" when they read that an older person is unmarried? I certainly don't.

__Busheviks Plan Gay-bashing Attack on 'Bachelor' Clarke

Mathew Gross writes, "Wonkette displays her DC connections: We have it on semi-reliable authority that the Bush administration's next attempt to discount Richard Clarke's credibility will consist of alleging that he's a big gay. The groundwork is already out there. This morning's Boston Globe paints Clarke as a young conservative but hints that he may be of the Log Cabin variety: 'Clarke, who is unmarried and lives in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C., has long received plaudits as a diligent, highly effective bureaucrat with equal regard on both sides of the aisle....' A fatherless, unmarried bureaucrat who quotes Dante? Clearly we know which team he's batting for. But I suspect that any attempts to push the issue by the Bush administration will backfire. They've shown the American people in the past ten days how vicious they can be; they won't improve their case by grasping at the irrelevant, especially if it's done in a transparent manner."

Anyone know anything about this blog? "Clearly we know which team he's batting for" seemed a stretch to me.

If there's any truth in this, I think the Bushistas will be quite disappointed if they expect a "He's gay" smear to succeed against Clarke.

9. It's possibly a 'going-in-the-back-door' smear to me...
depending on who's delivering the message.

They report that Bush is going after Clarke with suspicion - plants the suspicion.

13. I'd like to know more about that blog. It seems to be

a liberal blog but I wonder. . .

I debated with myself as to whether it was enabling the rumour to post it here, decided it will be widely seen since Democrats.com has referenced it, and people who read DU are not going to doubt Clarke's testimony or book because of gossip, particularly when no one would care if he were gay, even a "big gay." :eyes:

14. Another quagmire for Rove
Just how do you manipulate the media whore's and the fundies in tagging Clarke with being a "fag," and in doing so demolish his credibility, without opening up Condi's personal life-style pursuasions.

19. "fatherless"?? Is that a polite term for bastard?
Anything to avoid addressing the issues!! His sexual orientation and birth certificate are completely irrelevant! The degree to which this country wallows in fallacious bullshit is apalling - a pandemic of mental pathology.

22. I think the Globe article said his father died and he was

raised by his mother. And, of course, he was an ONLY CHILD, which we all know leads to deviance of some sort. :eyes:

23. Doesn't anyone realize it's better not to be married when
the career you've chosen is a VERY DEMANDING ONE? Rice isn't married either...so what?
When I hear about the hours required to do a GOOD JOB in some WH positions, it's fure not conducive to fostering a strong personal relationship with anyone!

I think this is the kind of smear tactics this admin. uses when they can't find anything true to bolster their argument.

24. Has anyone else read the blog and the Globe article?

I thought the blog was stretching it to think that mentioning that a man was raised by his mother (after his father's death, as I recall) and is unmarried implies that he's gay. Worse yet, the "quoting Dante" bit referred to one quote by his high school yearbook photo, and here's that paragraph from the Globe:

For many of his friends, the expectation was that Clarke would always stand up for his convictions, living up to the quote by the Italian poet Dante that he used in his high school yearbook: "The hottest places in hell are reserved for those, who in a time of great crisis, maintain their neutrality."

Is this blog reliable?
