OK, I said I wouldn't express an opinion until we learned more (Audrey) |
|
Now I am going to say it. I think this young lady is pregnant and trying to establish a rape or assault scenario to account for it. It could even be true but I doubt it. I think that her first attempt at establishing a cause was her first claim of assault which was never solved. She is probably petrified of disappointing her family by disclosing that she has been having unprotected sex.
This is just my humble opinion but was my first thought when I learned about a previous unsolved assault in February.

One woman at my old college faked an attack so she could drop her classes after the deadline.

3. Press Conf: She's changing her story |
|
She just "vanted" to be alone.
Then says she was abducted - but in a different part of the city.
Sad really.

8. Actually, I wouldn't be terribly surprised if they end up charging her... |
|
...with lying to a police officer.
If she'd simply told the truth when they 'found' her, there would be no foul, no problem. Just a whole big misunderstanding due to some panicky parents.
However, she gave the police a description of the 'assailant'. Luckily, nobody happened to match that description, but someone easily could have, and with 100's of police searching around for someone supposedly 'armed with a knife and a gun', they could have shot an innocent person.
When she told the police a story about this 'assailant', she crossed the line.

9. you are right; fry her |
|
wink
and she is a teenager and we will see what the story and lessons learned. do you think maybe the community and world in general had a part, along with the media cause of our crisis crisis and the last woman taken from university killed up there.
maybe we can all say, cool she is alive, this happens.........life moves on
we are making it awfully tough for our kids to not mess up even a little. thinking back to my teenage years. geez if 42 isnt so much easier and more clear. hey guess a difference from kid and grownup

10. She's not a teenager. She's twenty years old. |

And I'm all for being understanding with young people, but way, way too many young people who aren't quite as photogenic as Audrey have suffered serious consequences for offenses far more minor than purposely diverting a huge manhunt and putting a whole neighborhood at risk by having the police 'comb' it with guns drawn for an armed assailant who didn't exist.
Of course the community and the media had a part. Of course, it didn't help that the cable news stations were looking for a distraction, and found one here in Madison.
However, I don't care whether she wasted CNN/MSNBC's time. I worry about what easily could have happened. For example, a collegue of mine was in the general area that afternoon, and almost exactly fit the description. Luckily, he didn't run into the wrong person and flinch at the wrong time.
I don't say 'fry her'. The offense of lying to a police officer would probably be charged as a misdemeanor with just a simple fine. I think she's at least due that if it's determined she lied to the police to save face with her parents.

from the start. I don't know. Anymore, I'm cynical, especially when they turn up alive. Oh, that's a horrible way to live. I need an aspirin.

6. WHO GIVES A SHIT ABOUT THIS WOMAN? |
|
Man, I just tried to watch some news and try to find out what was going on in the world and every single news source on television had nothing but "stories" about this woman.
Good God, the news media has simply vanished from this country.
It's pathetic.

One that has the best source (which I won't name, but it's second-hand from the police, not third-hand), is that it's suspected that she intercepted an email to/from her ex-boyfriend to/from his new girlfriend, and that caused her to take off for awhile because she was upset.
Her statement isn't making a lot of sense at the moment. For one: She apparently told the police that she was taken from her apartment at knifepoint. Problem is, we've all seen the video from The Regent, and she clearly leaves the building by herself. (on edit: apparently, she just changed this part of her story this morning, having realized that she was on the surveillance tape...hmm...)
Another thing: When the woman who spotted her in the 'marshy area' spoke to her, she'd gone out to speak to Audrey to verify her identity (before she called the police), and was told by Audrey that 'she comes out here to relax sometimes' and that she was fine. She apparently also had her sweatshirt hood tightly tied shut to hide her face.
I think that Audrey had seen the hubub on TV, and was hoping to make it to the Sheraton where her family was staying before anyone else saw her. The area where she turned up is about a block away from The Sheraton, and is adjacent to railroad tracks (I think she was walking along the tracks to get there).
I'm not sure what happened, although I'm becoming more sure there was no abduction.

They’ve got video evidence of her buying duct tape, rope, and a knife at a hardware store –during – the period of her massive search.
