My Fantasy About the Condi Rice Testimony

First of all it's becoming more and more clear to me that both Condi and Colin were out of the loop as far as the inner circle's plans were concerned. Whether it be LIHOP or MIHOP or whatever, Condi and Colin were NEVER included in any of the "real" planning of the core players in this admin. It's also quite possible that the Chimp himself was not in that loop.

I think Condi was doing what she was told, making all sorts of plans and speeches around the cold war assumptions that she knew best. She was told to forget about the terror threat and the Clinton admin. warnings and urgencies and to pursue her missile defense nonsense and work on other issues. IOW, she was given "busy work" while the real players were plotting their nefarious schemes. The look I see in Condi's eyes and on her face is one of "Oh shit. I've been played. I'm so stupid, I should have seen this coming. I saw the warnings, but I did what Cheney told me to do anyway and now I'm fucked and in too deep to make it right". Let me be clear. I in no way excuse her incompetence, I'm merely thinking out loud here about how I think she was totally used and played by the main players in this admin.

Now it comes to pass that they are throwing her to the wolves by offering her up to the 9/11 commission. I can see no way her testimony can be anything other than a disaster. No matter how much she prepares, how much she's coached or how much she spins, there's no getting around all her contradictions. She either perjures herself, or tells the truth and brings the whole thing down, including herself.

Now to the fantasy. Imagine Condi now, working w/ Rove and Cheney preparing her testimony. She's got all this in her mind. She's now seen all the evidence mounting up about all the missed or more likely INTENTIONALLY IGNORED warnings. In her mind there HAS to be thoughts about how incredibly criminal these thugs are. She knows she wasn't in the loop but is FORCED to cover for their and now her crimes. So, she's working w/ them, being a team player, preparing her testimony, preparing her statement, her lies. As far as everyone in the admin. is concerned she's going to get up their and lie big and boldly to cover ALL their asses. But what if that doesn't happen? What if she does the unexpeced? She gets up before the commission, Rummy, Rove and Cheney smile inwardly, knowing the load of crap she's about to serve up will further muddy and confuse everything and if someone goes down, it will be her, she will be sacrificed for the lies she tells under oath. They laugh at her idiocy and at what a sucker she is. The perfect patsy. Condi unfolds her prepared statement as beads of sweat coalesce on her forehead, hands shaking, her face a mask of twisted fear and apprehension, pale and sickly. Her lips tremble as she begins to talk and she says the following...

"Ladies and gentlemen of the 9/11 commission. I would first like to read a statement that I have prepared. I initially worked on a statement w/ others in the admin., one defending our actions before and after the tragedy of 9/11. This is not that statement...."

And like something out of a Tom Clancy novel, Condi comes clean. Her conscience finally rears it's long shackled rage and the floodgates open! She lays it all out, how she and others were duped! The lies the cover ups, the threats and intimidation! She apologizes to the American people, she takes responsibility but also lays more of it at the feet of the most corrupt, degenerate bunch of criminals to ever achieve high office. Her testimony is a catharsis for her, tears well up, she charges the admin. w/ at the very least criminal negligence and incompetence and accepts responsibility that she is guilty as well and is ready to pay the price because she can no longer live the lie and she throws herself at the mercy of the American the people and begs forgiveness.

if the GOP were serious about putting the future security of America into black hands. He and Condi were jsut the spooks who sat by the door, trotted out only when Bush's PR stunts needed a little, uh, color.

6. Colin and Condi are there as Window Dressing and Patsy's

That's it. They have no say in the formulation of any of the plans or policies. They are told what to say and what to do and then trotted out like puppets.

If you remember the end of the movie "Casino" or are familiar with The Mob, you know what I'm talking about.

No matter HOW much they toady and lie and defraud and steal, Sleezy and Colon can NEVER be a true part of the BFEE.

In the penultimate scene of Casino, the bosses are deciding which "loose ends" to tie up. They say (of their Jewish Vegas Point man played by Alan King), "He was arrested, but he won't talk. He's a good kid. Standup guy... a real Marine."

"Yeah, but why take the chance? I mean, he's not one of us."

Next shot is BANG BANG BANG and Alan King slumping in the snow, dead.

Sleezy Foul Colon should take note of this movie because it IS EXACTLY how the criminals in the Imperial Family view THEM.

I'm telling you, that look on Condi's face is "How the fuck did I get into this so deep! I feel sick and it's all my fault for being so stupid!"

And aside from what anyone says, she's smart enough to connect the dots at this point and KNOW how guilty they are and now she's guilty by association and for covering for them. She wasn't in on the planning or the secrets, but she was there for the sole purpose of being thrown to the wolves for cover and she now knows it fully. That's what that look that she always has on her face says to me.

You conspire with your evil buddies on your testimony before you get on the stand, and then WHAM! you pull the rug out from under them by telling the truth...and the beauty is that coming from her, the truth is the LAST thing anyone would expect! Oh, the drama!

It'll never happen, of course. But wouldn't it be cool?

It would be amazingly cool if it happened. Considering that what we've been through as a country is as bizarre, shakespearean and Kafkaesque as I think most could imagine, I think I can safely say that you never know what can happen next...

my prediction: she'll lie and lie and heap lies upon lies. she'll squirm and sweat and bat her eyelashes and raise her shrill voice, and her repub defenders will try to silence the questions by playing the race and gender cards.

it'll be uncomfortable, but in an hour or two, it'll be all over and the mighty repub spin machine will take over.

the commission got snookered on this one. they agreed to call Condi only once, and not to call anyone else. they struck a bad deal. the headlines portray this as a Bush reversal, but it's really a Bush victory. he must have had a huge smirk on his face when he heard the news. what's at stake here is not just this investigation, but the separation and division of powers among the branches of govt. they needed to stand firm on Congress's right to call witnesses from the executive branch.
