Condoleeza Rice's lie is getting big press today
Not much on TV, but even NewsMax has the story
http://www.newsmax.com/archives/ic/2004/4/1/163244.shtml

Do a GoogleNews websearch for "Sibel Edmonds"
http://news.google.com/news?hl=en&edition=us&scoring=d&q=%22Sibel+Edmonds%22

Every paper has the story.

Former FBI Translator: U.S. Had Details Before 9/11

A former FBI translator told Salon.com the U.S. should have had an "orange or red-type of alert in June or July of 2001. There was that much information available."

(snip.....)
Edmonds also said she was offended by Condoleezza Rice's recent Washington Post op-ed on March 22, in which she said the White House lacked foreknowledge of the type and manner of attacks made by al-Qaida on 9/11.

"Especially after reading National Security Advisor Condoleezza Rice where she said, we had no specific information whatsoever of domestic threat or that they might use airplanes. That's an outrageous lie. And documents can prove it's a lie," Edmonds told Salon.

(snip....)

"She's credible, and the reason I feel she's very credible is because people within the FBI have corroborated a lot of her story," the Republican senator said.

4. And the Moonie Wash Times is running it as well
plus remember the WSJ has questioned the timeline of 9-11 and yesterday that it was known by the government that hijacked planes could be used as missiles.

8. Cute, hell. . .I like her because she looks very competent. . .
She speaks Turkish, Arabic, Azerbaijani, Farsi and English. In other words, a prize plum applicant for the likes of the FBI, CIA, State Department, etc.

Remember - many peoples of the Middle and Near East speak several languages, whether they are "formally educated" or not.

And out there, the emphasis is most assuredly on education for both men and women.

11. What are we to make of this little factoid:
Ms. Edmonds was hired by the FBI on September 13, 2001.

I find it somewhat disconcerting. She did not translate the documents (i.e., those available before 9/11) to which she is referring. This is not to say she did not have access to them nor that they do not exist. I hope it does not mean that they were not translated until after 9/11, because that would confirm that the information was not, in fact, available to the administration.

I believe we should temper our enthusiasm a bit until this is clarified.

15. There's probably a dozen or so threads about Edmonds around here,
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 03:45 PM by scarletwoman
and there are links in some of them to her 2003 CBS News interview, and her more recent interview with Amy Goodman on Democracy Now, as well as the story from the Independent that came out yesterday.

I did a DU search on her name earlier today, and read through almost all the threads. (Sorry that I can't point you to which specific ones have those links, I didn't keep track, just kept reading.)

Anyway, I think your concerns will be readily answered by the additional information in one or more of those sources.

To briefly summarize: she was given documents and wiretaps to RE-translate, and found that the original translators had left alot of details out of their summaries -- but that the details HAD, in fact, been translated previously.

16. I want so desperately to take the Edmonds story at face
but the question remains (in what is left of my mind): what was passed on to the administration and when.

19. I understand.
I think this might have been at least peripherialy addressed in one of those interviews/news stories; but I must admit, my eye was on a quite different angle -- namely, who was giving orders for this information to NOT be passed upward.

It appears to me that someone was deliberately quashing investigations into the information that WAS uncovered -- the LIHOP angle, as it were.

All I can say is, read the Democracy Now interview at the very least, and see what you think.

13. More evidence the Bush crowd doesn't want the truth to come out...
The White House cut a deal with the commission. In exchange for Rice testifying in public and under oath, the commission has agreed to not call anyone else from the White House to testify under oath.

Does that sound like an administration that wants to get to the truth and let the chips fall where they may?

14. actually it sounds
like the commission lost their balls, they shouldn't have made any deals with anyone..Bush and Cheney should be questioned seperately, there isn't much of a chance to get them in a lie if they are both their and Cheney doing all the talking..
