Anti-American Voices Get Louder Across Iraq

BAGHDAD (Reuters) - The people who burned and kicked the corpses of four American contractors in the Iraqi town of Falluja this week were not armed insurgents or foreign fighters.

Children joined in as jubilant crowds played with the charred bodies, dragging them like trophies through the streets of a town overwhelmed by hatred for the occupying forces.

Those who participated in the brutality may represent just a tiny minority of Iraqis, but across the country anti-American voices are getting louder and more insistent.

"There's an increasing feeling of anti-Americanism definitely," said Paola Gasparoli of Occupation Watch, an independent organization that monitors the occupation. snip

One tank rumbles through Baghdad with "Bloodlust" painted on its barrel. Another says "Kill them all."

3. as a former tanker i have warned many of this
all too common practice.

but but but WE ARE LIBERATORS!

sadly have argued with many long time friends here as well that this is what goes on in combat units. :eyes:

as it is to show their d*cks and feel the adrenaline rush (for their own pleasure)

unfortunately, it is ingrained to think with your small head in the military rather than your larger one

21. IOW, the natural side-effects of a militarist culture
Matcom, this kind of thing is NOT the sole province of combat units. As a heavy construction engineering officer, I can tell you that PLENTY of it goes on in CS and CSS units as well.

What you are seeing here is the natural side-effects of a militarist culture. These kids are encouraged to glorify war and violence. That's not something you can just turn off when the operation turns from "invasion" to "occupation".

It's quite similar to the numerous instances of SF soldiers at Ft. Bragg killing their spouses last year after returning from Afghanistan. They had to turn it "on" over there -- and when they got home, found they couldn't turn it "off".

Prepare for more of this as the evil tentacles of militarism work their way through more and more segments of our military and society as a whole.

29. I think the only possible exception
is Medical units, mostly you have to see all your patients as HUMAN BEINGS.

That said, yes this is common and explaining this to people outside the culture is very difficult... if not down right imposible

It seems like it's a free for all over there....are there any COs?

Is that supposed to be a lesson in Amercian Democracy...?

Unbelievable - this has to stop.

6. If
they were all killed, would they be liberated? If they are trying to get the message to Iraqis that this is a liberation, that would be a bad choice of words.

32. Yeah, that's photoshopped.
It was going around freerepublic awhile back. They thought it was all very funny.

Not that there aren't real GIs acting like a bunch of fucking nazis. There was that case awhile ago about GIs painting things like "take this, faggots" and "screw you, sand niggers" on bombs.

I'm pretty savvy about these things. It is kind of a low-res picture, almost like a still from a video camera.

Any proof that it's photoshopped or not?
