Biden: Bush would have thrown his body in front of the planes
Biden said this to Al Franken today. He was refering to the 911 planes.....WTF? How does he know this? He is a Bush apologist! Bush skips out of vietnam but Biden says that Bush would have given his life to prevent 911? Does not make sense.

just a self-important blowhard who has way too much

I have always likened him to the Senator Jar-Jar Binks.

Well, if this is the criterion: "a self-important blowhard who has way too much comfort in his own (imagined) cleverness.", then my guess is that the entire Senate (and I do mean the entire United States Senate) pretty much meets it.

imho

31. You're right not a DINO...just a long term politician....
....in my other life I worked in DC with politicos. These guys are all good friends after hours. Even when they sound upset, they're only upset for the cameras. It's a sad condition of what they call DC's number one sport: Politics.

I favor term limits because it dissuades them from political entrenchment.

People forget how cozy Scalia and Ginsburg are off the court...the two married couples are extremely good friends.

33. What's So Wrong With People
who disagree with one another on policy or on legal issues being friends with one another?

I would much rather have that sort of situation that the sort that exists in many other countries of the world, when people with different points of view on matters of law or policy actually hate each other.

Because hatred leads to violence.....At least, I think it does.

65. It's really the pandering to the voters I object to....
...the bullshit fire in the belly speeches that mean little. Sure they should be friends....but then the stunts of anger in front of the camera should be toned down and they should work things out. What I'm saying is, I've seen some of these people joke around in the evening about matters that are important to citizens. It's their on air performances I object to. It also makes people as you can see from posts on DU believe the cause is worthy of strong emotions. I'm stating that they are plying their emotions for the camera and to buy votes with their constituency. Sorry if I sound cynical, I left DC 7 years ago to become a contractor....because I felt too passionate about the issues and couldn't take it anymore.

73. Term limits are a bad idea
Experienced pols are a good thing. Part of the reason California is having economic problems is that no one in the legislature knows what the hell they're doing - you finally get the hang of things, and then you are forcibly kept from office.

Bush played the probabilities. He chose a path, National Guard, which was least likely to lead him into battle--to put him in harm's way. Some would call this being a chickenshit. I am not a name caller. Ergo, I would simply say that Bush chose the path that was least likely to lead him into ballte--to put him in harm's way.

President Bush spoke publicly for the first time Tuesday about his fears for himself and his family in the hours after the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, telling a German television reporter he was "trying to get out of harm's way" before returning to the White House.

In an interview with ARD German Television, Bush said that...

Bush's initial conduct on Sept. 11 came under scrutiny because he did not immediately return to Washington. When the first airliner crashed into the World Trade Center, he was in Sarasota, Fla., to speak on education reform.

Bush and his entourage flew to two highly secure Air Force bases--one in Louisiana, the other in Nebraska--before arriving in Washington that evening.

"I mean, I was trying to get out of harm's way," Bush said.

"We were concerned about threats on the president. We were worried about future attacks, and there's a lot of belief that Flight 93 was headed to the White House," Bush added, referring to the hijacked commercial airliner that crashed in western Pennsylvania.

29. Oh come on!
9/11 is the greatest thing to happen to Bush politically in his entire political career. It caused his tepid approval ratings to go through the roof. It gave his neocon regime all the excuse they needed to enact their whole foreign policy agenda and attack civil liberties in this country.

He's been milking it for all it's worth ever since, as an excuse for everything, and a coverup of his failures.

Whether he deliberately allowed it to happen, or was simply incompetent, and used the opportunity to boost himself politically, you can't deny that he benefited tremendously from it.

You also can't deny that he has never displayed an ounce of courage, or willingness to engage in self sacrifice in his entire life.

As for his having any kind of respect for human life, he certainly doesn't seem to give a damn about the thousands of Iraqis that have gotten killed in his war, or the more than 600 US soldiers that have died there.

Death in the service of political expediency means absolutely nothing to *.

If it meant that he could force his and Cheney's agendas onto the American public more easily by wounding Americans' resolved through an attack on its own soil, then that was the course he was going to take.

It is hard to fathom someone who has taken an oath to protect and uphold the office of the presidency turning on his own people for personal profit and gain, but just because you can't imagine it happening doesn't mean it can't happen.

...as long as the American people bought the idea that "terrorists" had done the job.

After all, the PNACers had already stated in 1999 that they needed another Pearl Harbor to "galvanize" the American people in support of their plans for global domination.

71. ends justifies the means
the republicans, all of them, have taken into their heart the ends justifies the means. and yes, all of them, since those remaining so-called "good" republicans haven't done a damn thing about taking back their party.

the ends justifies the means.....

that means stealing an election
that means stealing americans rights and freedoms through various bills
that means setting up the most intrusive govt. we have ever had
that means getting the oil, for self gain and payback to cronies
that means stealing a governorship (calif.)
that means changing our form of govenment to a theocracy
that even means being complicit in sept. 11, because without that incident, shsortly after stealing the election, none of the rest would be possible.

bush would go along with anything that helps to bring about his (and pnac's) goals.

if not, he would have reacted differently on sept. 11.

17. I wonder about Biden
I have a feeling he'd like the investigation of 911 to just go away. He's one of the politicians that was schmoozing with Pakistan's ISI leader, General Ahmed on the morning of 911. You may recall, General Ahmed was exposed for wiring Atta $100 grand just weeks before 911 and was allowed to "quietly resign" after the FBI confirmed it. There's more than meets the eye where Biden's concerned.

Brave Sir Shrubbie ran away,
Bravely ran away, away.
When danger reared its ugly head, he bravely turned his tail and fled.
Yes, brave Sir Shrubbie turned about
And gallantly, he chickened out. Bravely taking to his feet,
He beat a very brave retreat,
Bravest of the brave, Sir Shrubbie.

...he might fall in front of the planes, but I wouldn't call that "throwing his body."

Are Biden's hairplugs sucking the blood out of his brain? We need to email that jackass and tell him to shut the hell up.

63. how about throwing his EGO in front of the planes?
Or his sense of entitlement?

Either of them would be big enough to shield New York, Boston, and D.C. -- say, that's what might work instead of that proposed missile shield!

68. He made that remark as a setup to slam Bush
CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT, CONTEXT

When he made the comment they were discussing the Administrations obsession on National Missile Defense, and how they ignored the Terrorist threat. Biden was trying to make the point that Bush would have taken extreme measures to prevent the attack, but his own stupidity and incompetence were in large part to blame.

It was a good interview and Biden pretty much raked Bush over the coals. Y'all got a problem with that?

69. Yeah, I do
it's all good to point out Bush's incompetence, but not at the expense of the truth of Bush's character. Being a LIHOPer leaning more toward MIHOP every day, I will never believe that coward would have lifted a finger to stop his good fortune. This administration is both incompetent AND evil.

72. You're not going to win many arguements with this approach
You may be right, I'm not disputing a thing. My problem is; I want us to win. We've fought and lost the good fight. If we lose the next round then we can kiss our freedom and liberties goodby.

What does it take to win? Well for starters, consider what it will take to lose. Challenging the population with charges such as LIHOP or MIHOP without solid evidence to back it up is a good start. Vicously attacking Democrats because they are not sufficiently toeing the line is another surefire recipe for failure.

What is needed can be taken right out of the Republicans playbook. Keep it simple, stay on message, stay united. The truth is the most powerful weapon the Democrats have, if they wield it wisely.

76. Ok, some good points but
what exactly is the truth? Should I assume Joe Biden has the real dope? Somehow I don't think so. Your point is well taken though, the ultimate goal can only be achieved through unity.

78. You sound like you're repeating the gameplan from the 2000 election...
...be nicey-nice and please don't upset anyone.

Look where that got us.

If the majority of Democrats don't start growing backbones, we'll be in the same position following the 2004 elections. When all else fails you have to stand up to the schoolyard bully or be treated as a red-haired bastard stepchild for the rest of your life.

87. Actually...
I think Joe Biden just can't bring himself to believe that Bush is as bad as Bush is.

A lot of people have that problem. They simply can't imagine that anyone could possibly let American citizens be killed for any reason.

It's sad and hard, but whether we like to admit it or not, there really are monsters. We didn't get rid of the last of them when Hitler, Stalin and Pol Pot died, and the monsters aren't always from some other country.

The only other possibility would be that Bush is incredibly stupid and totally incompetent. That's a real possibility too, but now that the information has come out about his single-minded focus on Iraq even before 9/11, I don't think stupidity is an excuse any more.
