I can't listen to it anymore.

I much prefer Randi the pit bull. She's exciting radio.

I guess different strokes for different folks. Some people like the NPR conversational style and others like the shock-jock Randi Rhodes, Howard Stern, Neil Rogers, attack dog style.

4. You guys are so right.
I listen to liberal radio via Sirius. I am requesting that they get rid of Alan Colmes, and get Rhandi and Mike. I'm very happy with Hartmann, Ed Schultz, the Young Turks. Get rid of Doug Stephan. Squeeze in Lizz Winstead.

...if you don't like it don't listen. It's just that easy. But please don't piss on everyone else's parade. I don't like the Rhodes show...but I wouldn't want her to leave the lineup.

- Franken has a lot of fans and will tune in daily to hear him. You have the option of listening to any of the shows...or skipping any of them. But this constant bitching and moaning doesn't help.

41. Here comes the thought police again.
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 03:03 PM by slavkomae
I actually like Al's show, a lot. I think his level of comfort is improving exponentially from day to day, and unlike Randi, he actually seems to want to have conversations with people. I do think that he's much more to the center than I am -- ie, he outright dismisses LIHOP -- but there seems to be real debate on his show.

1) But don't you think that your post is even bigger ammo for the Freepers -- they love to say that DUers are all singleminded and that no thought diversity is allowed at DU, which is completely false -- save for several posters who constantly try to stifle what everyone else has to say; and

2) Since when do Freepers get to determine what we should and shouldn't say? And how is this "Ammo"? Who gets hurt if they go off blabbering on their half-assed messageboard?

30. The mistake of the Al Franken show
Al Franken is a comedian and a celebrity - not a Talk Show host.

This becomes evident when one listens to his show.

Al Franken has no concept of what a Talk Show host is supposed to do. He is playing on his conflict with Bill O'Reilly. Bill O'Reilly is not the target. He is irelevant to the issue of politics in America. he is only a bad messenger. Al Franken wants his audience to focus on him rather on the issues.

Mike Malloy is great as he has the knowledge, focused on issues in each programme and not being a celebrity did not have to interject what were his connections, etc. Al Franken's questions to his guests are not thought provoking enough. It was the audience that made up Mike Malloy's shows.

Al Franken seems to want to prove to his audience who he is. He tries to interject at various times such comments as "I'm not going to push my book", etc. - which is hardly the issue for a Talk Show host to say.

It would be OK for Al Franken to do a couple of shows a week of political satire but certainly not a daily 3 hour Talk Show. That requires years and years of experience to activate an audience. Al Franken does not activate the audience.

I would email Mike regularly as he touched raw nerves with his political debate. So far I have not been motivated even to send a single email to Al Franken.

In short, in my humble opinion, Al Franken is going to be the curse of liberal Talk radio!!

I hope there is a place in talk radio for Mike Malloy for talk radio. I want all liberals to do well.

Please don't strike out against everyone else in the field because the guy you're a fan of isn't currently having success.

31. For me
Al lost a lot of 'street cred' when he admitted he has no concept of the net and mentioned his 'kid' knew the url (www.airamericaradio.com) and he did not.

Sorry.

He's relying on researchers and what he picks up in the print press. That is clear.

Hate to burst your bubble, but I am sure he has never read this forum.

On the other hand, i still like the show.

48. Ok, I HAVE to agree about the co-host though...
...something about her... a caller will just start talking and you constantly have to hear her "I need you to scoot to the point". That DOES get a little annoying. I suppose she has radio experience and needs to be there initially to sort of "guide" Franken, but she seems to be keep the reigns a BIT too tightly. But like I said, it can only improve and I enjoy it regardless.

42. Looking a GIFT HORSE in the MOUTH...
...I mean, come ON! This is just the beginning. Would Mike Malloy do a better job than Al Franken? Quite possibly (I happen to REALLY dig them BOTH... Franken will get better). But who out there in "middle America" has even HEARD of Mike Malloy? Now, I'd LOVE for them to hire him eventually (and I think they WILL), but they need a little NAME recognition to get people STARTING to listen. That's how it works. That's why they GOT people like Garofolo (LOVE her too) and Franken. It's going to draw listeners initially. Then we can introduce Mike Malloy to the world and blow everyone away. I think he'd end up #1 on the station. Let's just make sure the station keeps going for now, BY SUPPORTING IT, DAMNIT. We FINALLY have a SLIVER of something resembling a VOICE, so let's CLING to it, support it, and work eventually toward making it even BETTER. Do I make sense, or am I rambling? Hard to tell. ENJOY!

There's a show for everyone on Air America. Al Franken runs an old fashioned Bob and Ray-inspired radio show. There's Morning Sedition, Unfiltered, and Marty Kaplan for those who prefer more of a college station / Pacifica format style of delivery. There's Randi Rhodes for the streetfighters in the audience. There Janeane Garafalo on the cutting edge.

Dear Gawd, would you guys please just have enough patience to wait for the show that fits your personality type to come around the clock for you? Do you have to piss and moan because every show in the *AA* line-up isn't personally designed for you?

50. My political junkie view is
when I want to get all the information for the day, I come here, Buzzflash, Bartcop, Cspan, and follow the links. The fellowship of DU is very informed as to what rocks to look under, are highly suspicious (with good reason) of anything the neocons do. The INTERNET education I have received is invaluable.

Sometimes I forget there a people who never heard of PNAC, BBV, BFEE.
There are degrees of Liberal/Democrat/Progressive.

The Highlight of the day is usually the Daily Show with Jon Stewart. He has excellent writers. On his own, he can take on anyone from either side with a balance of genius and razor sharp wit.
He has his off days too.

This is AA first few days. I am very thankful it has happened, and congratulations to those who are responsible.
