1. Agreed
280,000,000 people in the US and we freak out when ever a modestly good looking white female (of any age) goes missing!

I'm making a point about editorial choices the mass media are making. The story is pasted all over the front pages.

5. This is PRECISELY why "local interest" stories should NEVER
be reported on stations like CNN/MSRNC.... In the area involved in the "episode"..sure, because local people may be involved/in danger, but it's pure exploitation at its worst for a nation/world-wide media venue to even cover these things..

Do people in CA need to "be afraid...be very afraid, that the "Wisconsin abductor" might be in THEIR yard, just waiting to abduct someone??

It was pretty obvious to me, the minute that I heard about the "clonking on the head" episode, that sopmething was not quite right..

These stations are doing the whole country a dis-service when they cover nonsense like this, it always means that there are really important things that they are NOT covering.. THAT is the real story..

Enough time has elapsed, that people do not remember how CNN USED to be.. They would devote as much time to a story, as it NEEDED.. There were not the "time-constrained" chunks of time on the air.. They had people who took multi-hour stints of coverage, and they could spend as much time as necessary. Now that the whole day is structured into "shows", the whole NEWS part of the station is totally gone..

The "hosts" of these "shows" love the abduction/car chase/lost girl stories, because it takes the pressure off of them.. They mostly just vamp and smile for most of their day anyway, and when they get to "cut away" for press conferences in Wisconsin, they get to "save" the really good host to host banter for later..

6. this was bound to happen
The ridiculous attention given to missing white college age or younger women would inevitably convince someone in this celebrity obsessed culture of ours to fake their own disappearance to gain national notoriety. The 'Natural Born Killers' bar has been lowered.

8. CNN CYA
This story is an embarassment to the network...carrying several hours of a dog sniffing a trailer and not much else. It looked hot...all the elements CNN loves in a story...White Girl, Sex, Abduction...a real tear-jerker, like that poor girl in Florida who was abducted and killed. Yep, CNN likes white girls in distress...especially in areas where rape and or murder by a minority male is highly likely.

This is right out of the Joel Cheatwood "If It Bleeds It Leads" school. Wanna bet there were producers in that control room hoping for a corpse or a good car chase or gun battle...and they were sure they were gonna get it...thus stayed with the boring coverage. Remember, this also came during a very busy news day where the regime was spinning itself like a top on Clarke & Condi's testimony...a great diversion.

Instead of a corpse...oops...this turned up to be CNN being sucked in on a local story that didn't deserve the coverage and ever since they've looked for some wierd angle or hook to justify their coverage. Now the News Exec in Atlanta who made the choice to carry this stuff is saying "see, she's crazy, that's the angle..."...

Honestly, the bias and slipshod journalism on this network in recent weeks is glaring.

9. NBC bit too they should all be ashamed of the "pretty girl missing" story
and evaluate why only certain abduction and disappearances are covered.

THAT is worth a thread of its own. Should I?

11. That's a Goldmine...
I was originally gonna use the "black girl" comparison, but there's a lot of other groups that suffer violence and injustice daily and can't get a fair hearing.

Another string would be on "self-fulfilling" news stories...ones the networks hope to jump on early for some sexual or violent reason. I find it so disengenuous when I hear one of those anchorbabes say "we're so happy she's safe and back with her family". Bullshit...your producers wanted a corpse! Find a video with the murder on it and it's a bigger bonanza. Then, of course, the video would be too sensitive for us to see, but we'll see it anyone.

I need to start happy hour early today.

Cheers!
