Which Republican(s) do you like and/or respect?
I don't mind John McCain. He is a shameless grandstander and show pony, but he's ok. I take issue with some of his ideas, I think he revels in portraying himself as a maverick and a straight-talker, which makes me want to puke because he was totally shameful in the Iraq war run up. He also sent me a letter regarding an e-mail I sent him that was an insult to my intelligence. It was a standard pre-written response "the war wasn't about oil" sort of thing. He has some sneaky little votes that are grossly harmful, such as he specifically voted against a provision that set aside money to give the troops new flak jackets, night vision goggles etc. However, he's still better than most conservatives.

I also don't mind Chuck Hagel and, actually, I really like Richard Lugar. Lugar totally impresses me whenever I hear him on some show or read a quote of his. Sure, I disagree with him on most issues, but he's at least a reasonable man.

U.S. CHUCK HAGEL NOW ADMITS OWNERSHIP IN VOTING MACHINE COMPANY SENATE ETHICS COMMITTEE DIRECTOR RESIGNS

“Hagel’s ethics filings pose disclosure issue” -- “The Hill” 1/29/2003

On October, 10, 2002 Bev Harris, author of the upcoming “Black Box Voting: Ballot-Tampering” in the 21st Century, revealed that Republican Senator Chuck Hagel has ties to the largest voting machine company, Election Systems & Software (ES&S). She reported that he was an owner, Chairman and CEO of Election Systems & Software (called American Information Systems until name change filed in 1997). ES&S was the ONLY company whose machines counted Hagel’s votes when he ran for election in 1996 and 2002. The Hill, a Washington D.C. newspaper that covers the U.S. national political scene, confirmed her findings today and uncovered more details.

3. Scott Ritter.
He may be a registered Republican who voted for Bush in 2000, but Scott Ritter is still my idea of a true American patriot!

5. Jesse Helms - didn't like him, but had respect for him
  • you NEVER had to wonder where he stood
  • he didn't change his mind in relation to the polls
  • if you could convince him he was looking at something wrong, he would listen to you with respect and change his opinion.
  • he did take care of his constituents.

of my keyboard? What a bunch of puke inducing crapa-rama-ding-dong that load is.

Jesse Helms was a backwards bigot who pulled North Carolina down. He was an embarrasment. His race-baiting was beyond contempt. He was a mysoginist pig.

Yeah, we knew perfectly where he stood and only those who were as simple minded as he "respected" him for standing in the effluent of intolerance that oozed from his pores.

I celebrated when he decided not to run for office again and I'll lift a glass when the old fart passes on.

Why am I reminded of the people who, when informed that their neighbor is a serial killer/cannibal, say "But he was always such a nice boy!"

8. Yeah, but the Republicans are a diverse species.
In mean, you're not going to claim that Tom Delay and John McCain are exactly alike simply because they're both Republicans?

15. I agree with McCain and Hagel
I like anyone who can use their own brain and not stick to the talking points or some sort of wacked out ideology(i.e. radical Christian Right). And I despise anyone who just does what they're told by party leaders, and that goes for both parties, eventhough I think it's a much larger problem for republicans right now.
