White House is controlling access to Yawning Boy (Dad Pioneer)
Edited on Fri Apr-02-04 04:59 PM by rmpalmer
http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A43501-2004Apr1.html

The White House, trying to get out in front of the Yawning Boy story, is now in charge of media access to the young man who was seen on David Letterman's show this week yawning his way through one of President Bush's less robust speeches.

Letterman's Worldwide Pants television production company has booked 13-year-old Tyler Crotty -- son of Orange County, Fla., chairman and major Bush fundraiser Richard Crotty -- as a guest on tonight's CBS late-night show.

"He's a young person who strongly supports the president and is excited about getting a chance to talk about it," White House assistant press secretary Reed Dickens told The TV Column yesterday.

Dickens has been named go-to guy for anyone wanting to interview Tyler, who gained national prominence when Letterman introduced a new segment on his show Monday called "George W. Bush Invigorates America's Youth."

<snip>

"I think whatever problems the Bushes might have had with the son they got over with pretty quick as soon as Dad reached 'Pioneer status,' " Maxwell says. That's the hokey title given to anyone who raises more than $100,000 for the president's reelection effort.

Is this starting to smell? On edit I see Letterman agrees.

<snip>

"This whole thing just smells. Doesn't it smell a little bit?" Letterman asked his audience last night.

1. They are jumpy huh?
Any little thing that goes wrong they pounce on it with all their force, news conferences and everything. I'm so glad that I'm paying for it too. :)

2. Maybe they'll invoke executive privilege
I'm sure they can come up with some Constituional reasoning.

3. My head is spinning at the thought
that the WH said ANYthing about the kid. The right reaction would have been to laugh about it and forget it. What a bunch of idiots.

5. Perhaps Bu$h will evoke *executive privilege*
to prevent the boy from appearing before David Letterman. :eyes: Gawd, is there any situation in which this gang of thugs won't lie? :shrug:

6. Are you kidding - this kid will be on Letterman
probably spouting how much he just loves Bush, etc.

Be a free campaign commercial tonight. The Bushies will use this kid.

9. I think you all are missing the point

put on your :tinfoilhat: this whole thing sounds like a setup. The father is a freakin' Bush Pioneer and dates back to 41. And coincidentally they just happen to get moved to seats behind Bush.

I bet this kid knew what he was doing. Probably a little ham. Remember the kid's name - he'll probably be a Repuke politico in the future.

12. Letterman will be in charge of the kid on TV
If the wingnut dad of the kid thinks he is going to spin anything, then he will be sorely disappointed.

Letterman is like a stubborn mule; the more he knows you want use his show to pitch something for yourself, the more he DOESN'T want you to use it that way.

When the lights are up and the kid is on stage, Dave will make sure that the Chimpy & the WH & CNN looks bad and the kid was just being a kid.

I've watched Dave for many years and he really doesn't like people pushing agendas down his throat.

13. Why would they want to do that?
That was the longest I ever watched a shrub speech without getting disgusted and changing the channel.

15. This is funny seeing them paint themselves in a corner!
They could have just made a joke out of it at the beginning like "heh I remember being bored with politics when I was thirteen too" and the whole thing would've sunk that day. Now they're digging themselves a deeper and deeper hole over something that wouldn't really have caused them damage to begin with!

17. The WH has taken over managing the kid
This is ridiculous. Not to mention an abuse of power and misuse of the WH and tax payer money.

Remember when AL Gore made a few phone calls from the WH and the stink the repugs raised about that?
