1. Cheap-labor conservatives |
|
That's all it is. They don't want us to have any money. They want it all. There's not one progressive thing they have ever been for in the history of this country. Not one.

I barely know a thing about American history, but I think Abe Lincoln would disagree with you..

That Lincoln said if he could end the civil war without abolishing slavery that he would. He was forced to do that.

Not Republican. And Roosevelt left the Republican party to try to start a new party IIRC.

11. Just some of the things conservatives are against |
|
“Social spending” otherwise known as “redistribution”. While they don’t mind tax dollars being used for killing people, using their taxes to feed people is “stealing”.
Minimum wage laws.
Every piece of legislation ever proposed to improve working conditions, including the eight hour day, OSHA regulations, and even Child Labor laws.
Labor unions, who “extort” employers by collectively bargaining.
Environmental regulations and the EPA.
Federal support and federal standards for public education.
Civil rights legislation.

Alliteration describing one who very likely doesn't know what it is?
After all, he admits to not being very curious. I have to laugh at the thought of * in a poetry class.

6. I used to agree with some of the things Republicans believed, |
|
although I always voted Democratic because the base-line issues, especially the environment and the Supreme Court, were too important to leave to the Republicans.
Since the 1980s, with the advent of Reagan, I've watched the Republican party steadily sink deeper into a hole of fundamentalist religious ideology, pure greed, and selfishness. This current administration is fascist, pure and simple.
I think that a lot of old-time Republicans are watching the same thing and they aren't happy about it. I don't agree with many of the opinions held by John McCain, for instance, but I give him credit for recognizing that what we have here is not a "Republican" administration, it's a disaster.
McCain got a taste of what these people do in South Carolina last election. I hope that some others are starting to wake up and do something about it.

Someone referenced Lincoln -- and I think that is a fair point.
Republicans of today love to talk up Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt. But I just don't believe they're entitled to that legacy - like party or not. Lincoln and TR were innovative compassionate leaders.
Today's Republican is simply a drone, parroting the mantra of small government and tax cuts - even while jacking up the size of government.
Today's GOP voters are far worse. The ideology of the average Bush apologist -in my opinion- falls under one or both of the following categories;
1) Machismo. Republicans take no shit. Shoot first. No questions. Tough, resolute leadership. Look at the statistics. Men between the ages of 18-34 are more likely to be Republicans.
2) Racist or classist at at least some base level. They may not claim to hate a race - and they may be poor themselves. But they "know" that all Democrats want to do is give their money to poor dark-skinned people. If they vote Democratic, they are admitting that they too are underpriveleged - and they just can't do that.
Also, Democrats are baby killers.
