Mods: Honest question: Why did you lock Phrenzy's thread? |
|
It was heated, but not exactly a flamethrower...
I was having a good time...
I was not offended. If someone else was, well, okay.

5. They weren't very vitriolic. |
|
Were they? No more so than Phrenzy's. Nobody got personal, everybody attacked ideas, for the most part, rather than each other.

I tried to keep it limited to ideas, but I think in light of the fact that many here on DU have loved ones that are actually in the field I could see how the whole debate could be considered a flame.
I still think the discussion over the morality of the US Military and its conduct in GENERAL is valid for debate, but it is a very intense topic.

I tried to narrow it down to the idea of following 'immoral' orders. Which, is an unfortunate reality of being in the military.

9. There are no "immoral" orders. Only "lawful" and "unlawful" orders. |
|
The nature of the military is amoral by definition.

That's partially my problem with the Military in general is that it seems that it attempts to absolve the individual from moral responsibility for their own actions (pulling the trigger, etc)
