Bush is on TV right now saying the June 30th date is firm When do you
think he will have to retract that?

1. There IS no 6/30 date
It's meaningless.

The troops won't come home.

The puppet government of the U.S. will stay in place.

There is no "there" there.

ceremony.

They are nothing if not audacious.

9. Well don't the fucking idiots know that in order that to look like
anything but fake at sometime Paul Bremer has to stop looking like he's running things? Or do they think the rest of the world is going to buy Bremer giving orders at the podium while the Iraqi government officials stand on the side looking like they are getting some type of fucking award.

11. I don't think they care
This would be aimed at bush party loyalists only. The ones that will not ever, ever admit to themselves what a monster they've been supporting -- preferring instead to blind themselves to reality in order to feel good about their party and their votes and their campaign donations and volunteer efforts.

Luckily they're a minority of repuke voters.

As for the rest of the world, I doubt they give a $hit. Have they seemd to care about international opinion so far?

5. Sure they will
When has reality ever stopped this maladministration from doing anything??
Can you say, "Mission Accomplished" ??
Nothing new here.

7. Exactly
What's "firm" is the date when some Shrubbies are gonna get together and put on a spectacular show that'll make a great campaign ad. Drama on that scale takes a lot of planning and organization, and changing your production schedule can screw things up.

Anyone who has ever been involved in producing a play can certainly understand this.

15. I'm sure Bush is choosing his costume right now.
I'm hoping he goes for the Napoleon look.

3. They are going to hand it over to the Iraqis. The new Iraqi Gov will
promptly ban the US and Coalition forces and end the occupation.

The US will be forced to leave

Then Iraq will go into a 25 year Civil war from which

Another Saddam will rise, worse than the first more like a Saddam of the Tali ban. Terrorist will flock to the new Iraq set up really fundamental Islamic schools that will teach hate toward the west and martyrdom.

The new martyrs will spread to Palestine, Saudi Arabia, and there will be a huge increase in terrorist attacks in Europe, North America and South America.

6. Good point. Imagine a Talibanized Saddam-type dictator with
the wealth of oil to support his reign. It's scary that that describes bush* too.

12. My understanding is that we are handing it over to ourselves
or more accurately, puppets we have chosen for their loyalty to the U.S.

17. Forced to Leave
"Forced" is the key word.

The groundwork on this has already been carefully executed. Remember all the discussion some weeks ago about the search for a so-called legal justification for remaining in Iraq past the point of sovereignty transfer?
