Alanis Morissette strips down to blast US 'censorship'
Drudge :puke:, but anyway...

Morissette strips down to blast US 'censorship'

<snip>

Morissette, hosting Canada's annual music awards, said the stunt, in which she appeared in a provocative skin-hugging body-suit was intended to expose US "censorship."

<snip>

Morissette let a dressing gown fall to the floor to reveal her "nudity" after an announcer warned : "we can't show nipples on national TV," in an obvious dig at US outrage fanned by Jackson's "wardrobe malfunction" at the Superbowl.

<snip>

Morissette then blasted US radio stations which have forced her to change the word "asshole" in one of her songs.

"They're in an era when they're scared, when there's lots of fear," she said.

2. Reminds me of that Seinfeld episode...
Where George Costanza wants to get fired from his Yankee job but doesn't have the guts to streak naked.
He then becomes "Bodysuit Man."

3. "Alanis Morissette says Americans will be horrified by her display"

Pretty silly, really.

EDMONTON, Alberta (Reuters) -- Canadian rocker Alanis Morissette didn't bare her breast like Janet Jackson, but she did bare her soul last night at Canada's annual music awards, demonstrating her disdain for what she called "hypocritical U.S. censorship."

Hosting the 2004 Juno Awards ceremonies, Canada's version of the Grammies, Morissette disrobed on stage to reveal a skin-colored, naked body suit with nipples and pubic hair.

As part of the skit, Morissette was then told by the show's assistant director that "actually, we can't show nipples or pubic hair on national TV," at which time the Ottawa-born singer pulled off the fake body parts.

And that of course, was just a joke. I can report decades of, ah, monitoring Canadian television for, er, nipples and pubic hair. It oughta be a crime what we get away with up here, I tells ya!

I agree with her.

People on the outside can see that more easily than we can in terms of how fucked up our country has become.

The corporate media is complicit in this fear mongering.

20. Yes, they are...
But in the case of Janet Jackson, you had violent sexual overtones ending with nudity. Not the same thing as what Alannis did.

18. so nipples are evil but dismembered blown apart bodies is OK
we don't "oversexualize" them (wtf does that mean?)

What we do do is show sex completely out of context and out of balance...it all feeds in to the really sick society where women are made into objects and sex is divorced from human love and feelings and just all twisted into power control & manipulation...its wrong and naughty....no one on TV treats anything in a normal or natural way....they have lost their way as to what is normal and natural and caring human qualities....

Killing and murders and blowing people up and wars and terrorism and FEAR FEAR...FEAR.....now thats fine for kids to see but god forbid they see a breast and oh yeah, in case you missed it, CNN will air it nonstop fro the next 72 hours.

As a society and a country, we are really really sick and don't even know it....

17. almost
Actually, I think it was a well intentioned but unsuccessful stunt. Isn't it ironic that Canadian TV also is not allowed to show even her fake nipples & bush? I think it was meant to be comedic, but if she had the true courage of her convictions she would have really went buff.

genuine nipples and pubic hair and even genitalia. (And I'm not talking about cable. I've seen all of that on Canadian broadcast TV since I was in high school in the mid-70s. You'll have to trust me on this. :evilgrin: ) It was just a stupid joke that the fakes had to be ripped off.
