Would the Iraq anti-war movement be as big without *'s unilaterialism?
Edited on Mon Apr-05-04 02:30 PM by CocaCola58204
Had * sucessfully gained the support of France, Germany, et al., would there be a "second superpower"?

Tihs poses a big question for the future: If there is to be a long term peace and justice movement, will it be diminshed if there is significant foreign support for a future war?

2. and I went to demonstrations against what Clinton did too
back in the 90's. The sanctions were wrong, totally wrong.
I was yelling and screaming about how we were funding the Taliban in the 80's and how the women of Afghanistan were treated then too.
In the meantime, the US refuses to look at themselves and why the ME hates us.

5. Yes, funding the Taliban in the eighties
When the Soviet Union invaded Afghanistan, the mujahadeen were supplied stinger missiles and taught to fight insurgent warfare by none other than the good old US of A.

6. Alright.. But, it wasn't the Taliban. I think the Taliban is a newer

moment that didn't appear on the scene until the 90's. That said, the US administration gave support to mujahedeen like you mentions and if I am not mistaken this started already under the Carter administration (According to John Pilger I think).

It was weird during the eighties. I remember watching movies like James Bond, and Rambo where the mujahedeen were portrayed as great heroic freedom fighters figting against evil commies.

On edit: A lot :-)

4. Interesting question. In Norway, if the war had been sanctioned
by the Security Council polls showed that the support for the war would have been much stronger.

I think large sections of the Norwegian anti-war movement is due to Bush's unilaterlism.
