who said this?
"To win the war on terror, we must also win a war of ideas by appealing to the decent hopes of people throughout the world, giving them cause to hope for a better life and brighter future, and reason to reject the false and destructive comforts of bitterness, grievance, and hate. Terror grows in the absence of progress and development. It thrives in the airless space where new ideas, new hopes and new aspirations are forbidden. Terror lives when freedom dies."

3. yeah
what about they hate us for our freedoms?

and don't you like the PR approach?

the "battle for ideas?"

they don't appear to cotton to ideas here that differ from their own; guess that's why they have the "free speech zones" whenever people want to express their first amendment rights in proximity to the maximum leader

and isn't it ironic that this latest uproar in Iraq was in large part fomented because they closed down a NEWSPAPER with whose message they didn't agree?

4. Their gall never ceases to amaze me.
They keep thinking they can put make-up on a pig with their PR.

It isn't long before the stink tells people it's really a pig under there!

I've got to read this book. The author was on C-SPAN on Sunday morning and she dug up a lot about Dr. Rice.

5. The difference between CR and Albright, e.g. or Holbrooke
The diplomats, you see, read Joe Nye, and are all like, "Yeah, what he said."

Condi is more clever. She reads a book like that about soft power yada yada yada, and she's all like, "Yeah, and we have ways of making you free."
