Have Feeling about Schwarzenegger Changed in California? |
|
Today, over the internet, I read an article from the San Jose Mercury about the governor's fundraising. The article stated that in the eight months since Schwarzenegger took office he has "raised a record-breaking $27 million for himself and political causes, with nearly one-third of the money coming from 37 individuals or companies that have written six-figure checks."
I am wondering if people in California are beginning to think that Schwarzenegger is just as close to special interests as Gray Davis was? I would also like to know if his policy decisions are beginning to cost Schwarzenegger some of the support he had when he was first elected.

1. I never hear anyone talk about him really. |
|
Those who didn't want him to be gov. still don't like him. Those who were all excited about him don't seem to be talking. At least that is the way it is in my little corner of the world.

2. It's the same in Sunnyvale |

People at the community college where I work and the library and senior center I visited today are worried about what will happen to their budgets.
But at this stage everyone seems to be giving Arnold a honeymoon.
Arnold received good press for helping pass the initiatives that allow us to borrow money. Also he is receiving credit for the fact that there is progress on worker's compensation.
Of course, I think all of our problems started with Bush but I don't hear people making the connection between Bush and the Republicans like Arnold and our budget problems.

that is what bothered me with the recall in calif. bush's economy, california having to pay for orange alerts and no reimbursement from federal and the energy policy of bush with his texas friends. and then, people let the republicans hijack an office pointing at grey, good or bad, just had me in a spin
use to be calif, living in texas now. not saying those are the only reason california is in its mess

3. looks like he may stand a chance to get skewered on the budget, |
|
(duh), by the So Cal repub "base"..he's realizing the State has to find some funds to operate, he's gotten his big bond (which of course is a tax on future Californians' income, but don't say that) so that leave a real time tax adjustment. Debate has started in what has got to be one of the most partisan Statehouses in the country. Our budget routinely gets hijacked by competing Repug/Dem factions, comes in way late after a midnight compromise few folks ever read.
Otherwise, we're so broke, we've become comfortably numb.

5. the gropenfuhrer's first act of office |
|
... was to break his promise to address the allegations of groping and sexual assault; by saying they were "old news" and refusing to answer questions.
he's now finally admitted that tax increases will "probably" be necessary, even AFTER the voters were conned into giving him everything he wanted in the bond initiative.
his plans to save the state still include stealing billions from cities and counties.
community colleges are in desperate crisis, and tuition is spiking at UC's, at the same time that president fuckwit is telling unemployed workers they need to "retrain".
he has so far failed to deliver on his promise to bring in financial assistance from his fellow repub in the oval office.
he's being sued by two of the women who accused him of groping.
can we PLEASE have another recall???

7. Arnold is the Honorary Chair of *-Cheney '04 in California... |
|
But so far, he hasn't appeared at any of the * fundraisers in CA. He probably won't abandon his party allegiance, but he most likely wants some favors from * before giving his support.
It's my feeling that all those who voted Arnold into office are now aware that he doesn't have any magic bullets for the fiscal ills of California.
But he does remain a popular public figure. For God's sake, there are at least two Arnold action movies always running simultaneously every evening on cable here in Los Angeles.

People who don't like him still don't like him.
People who voted for him think he's our savior, and all the other stuff isn't his fault.
