12 dead, and only one headline?

I scanned all of my usual Internet news sources today, and all of them lead off with uprisings in Iraq. Only the New York Times, though, puts the number of dead servicemen in their headlines. The others (I didn't look at FOX-- and won't) bury the number in the story, like Bush sneaking the flag-draped coffins back in the dead of night.

Support our troops by ignoring their sacrifice and treating them as a campaign strategy? So that's what it means.

and similar is what you see splashed everywhere. How appropriate for the beginning of baseball season that we can once again check the box scores and see that our team is winning. Yay, America, liberate more Iraqis, yay yay yay!!! :puke:

2. Local radio news didn't mention casualties at all this morning

3. In fact

A few days ago in the Beacon Journal a woman wrote in to COMPLAIN about putting casualty reports and soldier's photos on the front page. I can't remember the specifics of her complaint; if I recall correctly I think it was something to the effect that that news is too horrible and depressing to see on the front page every day, and as something to be expected in war should probably not be "sensationalized" by the front page treatment. I think her real concern, of course, was that it could weaken our resolve to stay there and keep letting people on both sides get killed, and then "the terrorists will win".

The really infuriating thing was that she then had the crassness to snivel that tired hypocrisy "we will never forget".

I'll post her letter here if I can find it, I think the paper's already gone to the recyclables though.

4. That's Bush's talking point

His comments lately have been along that line, that we should expect a long war and that paying attention to daily casualties is not his focus.
