our 2nd revolution IS coming, like it or not
revolution WILL manifest itself this year in American history, mark my words. in some form, maybe not the expected or historical form, but a major revoltion WILL occur, it's unstoppable already.

i won't predict scenarios like rioting in the streets and chaos, although that's not completely out of the realm of possiblility, but a revolution of some incarnation is definitely going down, and soon.

the union simply cannot bear the mammoth weight of corruption and criminality this bunch of despots has made of it, and it will crumble, and a new union will be born from it.

we have the constitutional right to extract poor leaders from OUR white house, and if voting isn't quick enough, there are other options to consider, such as mass civil boycotts and protests, and sheer will. we must remind ourselves, they work for US, and we the people have the right to rid ourselves of them.

and as much as i love john lennon, i don't want to hear quotes from 'revolution', i believe one is coming. not that i wish it, or desire it, but it is coming, history demands it.

i'm no soothsayer, but my last name is Stradamus.

1. yes 1800 style, very much so
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 09:47 PM by nadinbrzezinski
1800 style... that was the Second American Revolution... read all about it

So technically this one, and you are living through it, is the Third American revolution

2. Is this when we get to use our 2nd amendment rights?
Are we firing up the militias? Is that what you are saying?

3. I fear that this is what it's gonna take...
to uproot the "Creeping Fascism" which is about to go full blown! Other than the military turning on these vampires running this country (and I don't see that happening) there is no other way to uproot them...especially if they fuck with the upcoming election!
By the way, good to see you back MoPaul!

4. I understand how you can think so
...and I think you can make a very compelling case for a revolutionary change in the way politics proceed from here on.

for instance:

Suppose that the 2004 election is too close to call and the Bushies claim an(other) illegitimate victory. Not only dems would take to the streets but also a lot of moderates and independents. Anything that Bushco does that would lend credence to the truths we know about Bushco but the moderate repubs and independents refuse to believe would surely ignite a firestorm.

that firestorm would also clean out congress..House and Senate both and there would be a new set of standards for elected officials.

That's the case for revolution I see.

6. I disagree
We are far too decadent a culture for revolution.

<<We sit in the house, and slowly the world we are living in is getting smaller, and all we say is, "Please, at least leave us alone in our living rooms. Let me have my toaster and my TV and my steel-belted radials and I won't say anything. Just leave us alone."

Well, I'm not gonna leave you alone.>>

Who will be our Howard Beale?

8. Who will be our Jean-Paul Marat?
Who will, at long last, stand up and say, "Follow me, Americans, we don't have to take it anymore!"? I wish I believed it would happen, but I'm afraid the culture is too tired, too decadent, too fat and comfortable. The strongest action most Americans are willing to take nowadays is to put a sticker somewhere on their cars...a little flag, or Calvin peeing on a Ford, maybe a "Visualize Whirled Peas."

15. one thing you forgot:
too cynical.

As I posted above, the cynicism will only end when the true intentions of the right wing are laid bare for all to see.

22. sadly true, fat lazy people don't have revolutions
and that works against us of course. no one wants the 'inconvenience' of hitting the streets in revolt. usually the populace has to be about half starved and grossly oppressed. i guess we have to get past the point of being fat herbivores, unaware of the lurking carnivores.

23. a week of not buying anything would bring them to their knees
i've submitted this idea before, of a boycott on say, gasoline, just for one week, no one buys gas. it would hit them in their pocketbooks, and scare the beejeezus out of them to see us rev our engines.

9. I agree, but not the way you think...
In the 1800's, the South did not revolt while they had a chance to hold power; they revolted when they lost all power. As long as they had something, a equality in the senate, control of the Supreme court, the Presidency, they were willing to stay in the Union...

The revolt will not occur from the left, but from the right, when in the next 2-10 years they lose control of the Presidency, Senate, Congress and the Supreme Court to the Democratic, Progressive majority. Then they will take to the streets, and there will be hell to pay as the revolt is put down.

You heard it here first.

13. Then perhaps some marching is exactly what's called for!
Whatever the next revolution entails, I think it should involve some good aerobic exercise. God knows I could sure use it!

12. Shrub's a loser,
but is he really worth killing your neighbor or your brother over?

Probably not.

This hasn't worked its way through our slow and carefully-planned system. It'll take time, though it seems like forever since the world has sped up so much in the last few decades, but the system still works, and it will work in this case.

We are nowhere near the point where we need to be counting ammo and stocking up on torches and pitchforks.

:)

I say this in the kindest possible way!

25. i never suggested killing
i'm not talking about the french revolution or the american revolt against britain, just a small revolution where we wise up and throw the ass holes out. a bloodless revolt of we the people.

the russians did it when communism fell. they surrounded the white house, (that's what they really call it) 3 million strong and pushed them out the back door. not a drop of blood was shed.

17. Pour Haaps.
People are going to have to do sit ins, peaceful civil disobedience, that kind of rebellion. It isn't that easy. When a day's work is disrupted, they get angry. They call in people to remove them, who beat them and even shoot them.

18. Follow the Money
...right down the tubes. The only thing holding revolt in check is consumer economy. Long as the toys can keep flowing, theres no incentive.

Economic collapse leading to hunger, lots of frustrated people with nothing to do all day, evictions and foreclosures...thats where the rebellion will come from.

I fear you are correct, MoStradamus, its coming.

20. TV will indoctrinate the new drafted youth troops, Tienamen Square.
Teenagers watching TV will be put on line with the new draft.

They are historically clueless and they will be turned against the public just as the young Chinese troops were in Tienamen Square.

Our American youth are going to be used against us.

21. Not gonna happen. Here's why:
"The revolution will not be televised."

Ergo, there will be no revolution. Americans will never revolt as long as the TV works.

Sorry, that's the truth.
