8. I have a real hard time listening/watching and typing at the same time
There should be a transcript up later on the Nightline website. I don't know how well I can summarize while I watch - sorry!

5. Richard Clarke is one of the interviewees...
This started as a plan for the military, in the event of a nuclear attack wiping out the Eastern Seaboard... Cold War paranoia stuff...

7. Now we are supposed to plan Armageddon ourselves?
I don't know about that. Put me down as being against Armageddon.

10. WE are the ones making our water and air toxic and deadly....
WE are the ones who put our food supplies in jeopardy. Yet they have no fear of the repercussions of their horrific treatment of the environment...always projecting Armageddon at someone else's hands.

11. Ah, the plan....
To use major disaster to stage multiple coups.

When power is restored, someone you never voted for will tell you he's now your president.

I already wrote my federal reps about it.

17. How did you enjoy your power blackout last summer, AQ?
Brought to you by the bush administration.

Koppel's lead up to the next segment, after the commercial break. Lovely stuff, eh?

13. They're talking about keeping George out of town.
How weak does George sound saying he wants to come back and other people telling him he can't? And he obeys.

Sorry. They were very busy with their grand plan and LYING to us about it. It was a stupid, self-important idea.

3 planes hit 3 buildings, and the idiots ran to the bunkers?

Fine. Why lie?

15. Does it make you think,
maybe just for a minute, no wonder they weren't in a hurry to scramble jets on 9/11, no wonder they weren't in a hurry to warn the nation. They were all taken care of. They had a plan for themselves.

18. They always do.
That's why they split town for the month before 9/11. Bush went to the pig farm and Cheney went fishing in Wyoming. They knew what was coming so they split town. Why should they bother to alert NORAD and the airlines, so long as they themselves were already safe and out of harm's way?

14. Hmmm... Koppel says he finds this "reassuring"
Edited on Wed Apr-07-04 11:10 PM by scarletwoman
Contingency plans for the "unthinkable".

One of the earlier statements made was that this is "strictly an executive branch" operation. One guy even said that the legislative branch shouldn't be involved at all.

The woman interviewee (sorry, didn't catch her name, she's a current gov. official) basically said that she wasn't sure if she thought it was such a great idea for the American people to know about this. Afraid that people would get the wrong idea, like "dark conspiracy" kind of stuff.

Gee, she must have been reading my paranoid ol' mind... :tinfoilhat:

What Clarke, et al, were mainly driving at, is that this is a "good thing" so that there will be "continuity of government functions", and that "of course" the idea is to return things to "normal" as soon as possible. Ted asked who would be the judge of when "as soon as possible" had arrived, but there wasn't exactly a clear answer forthcoming.

20. Odd that...
... "strictly an executive branch" operation is meant to be a suitable explanation... as well as a reassurance....

16. I'm a little confused....
They say that declaring martial law would be done to "protect" the American people, but if anything like that were to ever happen and it continued for any significant amount of time (say a week or more) it would lead to a full-out armed rebellion by hundreds of thousands of American citizens.

Not only would tens of thousands of Americans lose their lives in this revolt, but the American economy would collapse, American society would collapse, America, as a country, would be destroyed.

I wish that I could believe that there isn't anyone in Washington stupid enough to think something like this would ever have a chance of success, but I believe in that about as much as I believe in the easter bunny.

19. But as Ted says, isn't it comforting to know that Cheney and Bush are safe
and in charge from their bunkers. Yes, I feel better already.

And Teddy boy will likely be broadcasting from hell....

21. Thank John Dean and Richard Clarke for bringing this out to the public
and Keith Olberman for letting John Dean speak about this issue. The American public is being kept in the dark about what is going on w/Cheney running the show.
