he told me its been really rough. Shi ites and Sunnis shooting their own people, US shooting people, and hes stuck in the middle of it guarding a prison. He doesnt understand it at all. he wants to come home.a mess, i.e.
I dont want to tell him how bad it can get as the holy days occur in the next week.

I heard a story one time (I think the person was quoting a comedian) about a guy's experiences in Vietnam. Said that a guy in his unit managed to fit a cross, a star of David, a little Buddha, a pentagram, and God knows what else all onto a single chain around his neck, under his uniform. You must be so relieved.

My brother was in the Vietnam War and I saw first hand how the worry and fear and anxiety of not knowing tore up and nearly destroyed the hearts and minds of my dad and mom...day after day and night after night.

I am so very, very happy for you and Michael.

We heard from a friend of our family who's between Fallujah and Bagdhad. He says it's "A mess, a REAL mess" and that whatever the "Gentlemen of the OTHER firm" are using, they're good shots with them.

He's safe amd Michael's safe. I wish more were safe tonight.

During the monsoon season in Vietnam, my parents went weeks with out letters from me. My 83 year-old dad is, only now, telling me how rough that was on them. It breaks my heart that I broke their heart while my heart was broken by being in Vietnam.
