if there is a need for a draft to stabilize Iraq, would you be more accepting of it? How would you react and what reaction do you think would ensue from Americans?

The whole reason for electing Kerry is that he will at least listen to us when we hold his feet to the fire...this is one of those feet/fire issues!

We don't need a draft, if we'll just stop starting wars.

I can't see any way possible to stabilize Iraq. Our continued presence there will only serve to keep the radical elements stirred up.
Asshat says power is supposed to be returned to the Iraqis on June 30th. Good. This mess was started on his watch, let it be finished on his watch.

4. I hope you are all correct! |

How is Kerry going to deal with all of this when he gets into office in January? He said he thinks we need more troops, the Democrats have started legislation to try to at least make the draft fair in case it comes to that. All the signs point to needing more troops. This tells me that no matter who is going to be in office, there will be pressure to send more troops especially if the violence continues as has been recently.
As a nurse, I just received literature from a recruiter yesterday asking me to join the Army Nurse Corps. Yikes! I am very concerned that it will become a necessity.

5. I don't think more American soldiers will make the difference |

If I did, I would be more accepting of a draft. The problem isn't in our numbers, it's in our policy.

6. I agree as well, but you know how it goes.... |

We are already there. What do we do once Kerry is in? Has Kerry talked of an exit strategy yet? Will the UN really want to step in and help?

I'm of draft age and I'm not going in to try to salvage Bush's unjustified war. I'm not interested in helping Kerry continue this war either. I will make it clear, that I will NOT die for UNJUSTIFIED wars.
If Kerry were to attempt to bring back the draft, I would lobby for him to be impeached. Same goes with any president.
An all volunteer army is best. I recall McCain saying this the other day.
We should be winding this down. This Fallujah thing is a mess (and is a very shmeful point in modern American history...possibly the most in the last 30 years). It's obvious the US is not seen as "liberators" to them. Rather, we are seen as occupiers.
Kucinich is right. Compensate the families of the dead (as though that's really possible), pay for the infrastructure, hand over the maintanence to the UN, get the US troops out (which is waaay overextended at the moment), and GET THE HELL OUT!!!!

The "When Kerry Wins..." scenario that concerns me the most is the fact that we'll have to put up with at least four years of him being blamed by the Limbaughs and Hannitys of the world for all of the lingering problems left over from the Bush administration:
"These deficits are unacceptable!"
"Why is Iraq such a mess?"
And to answer the OQ, if we bring in our allies and the UN, there will be absolutely no need for a draft.
