Earth to Bush.. Iraq does not WANT to be a "democracy"..
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 04:56 AM by SoCalDem
Iraq wants to be (and will end up) a Shi'ite Islamic country.. Just like its neighbor, Iran..

The Shi'ites, despite being the majority, have been suppressed for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS...and they will not allow for a piece of paper to dictate that they must now "play nice" with the Sunnis, who have disrespected, disaffected, and murdered them for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS...

They see "THEIR DAY" dawning, and they are not about to let a bunch of ex-patriot Iraqis who DID NOT suffer like they did, waltz in an take control..

These factions of people to not trust each other (and why should they???)..

The real tragedy here, is that NO ONE bothered to study the region, and their culture BEFORE they poked that bees' nest..

These people have no fear of death, and they rather like the idea of being martyred, and then worshiped for years, as a hero. Their lives are SHIT..have been SHIT for years, and they see nothing but greedy, well-fed Americans crawling all over their country..

They are not the country bumpkins that Bush expected them to be. They read, they understand, and lots of them are smarter than Bush is. They have access to the internet, and they know why they were "chosen".. Is it the Oil?? Maybe!.. Is it the template for future conquests?? Maybe!.. Is it about Saddam?? Maybe !!.

BUT...None of those matter now.. Saddam is gone, and they see their one window of opportunity ...wide open ...UNTIL June 30.. After June 30, they see themselves, once again, marginalized, even though they are the majority...

Had this adventure been a true "worldwide effort" to Free the embattled Iraqis, and had it been under the auspices of the UN, things might have been different.. At least there would have been Arabic speakers, and people of many nations participating.. They might have actually believed that their welfare was the main goal..

The Islamic government will eventually win out, because the people of the middle east think Long Term.. They have been at this "civilization" thing for THOUSANDS of years, and they do not mind spilling blood... theirs or their enemies' blood... And.. They don't have to WIN, in order to win.. They only need to make us lose.

Even if we "win"..we Lose..

Bushie could not resist the temptation, but in opening this Pandora's Box, he has really unleashed the beast..

To his credit, though, he proved that he is a Uniter, not a Divider.. He will go down in history as having been the one who united all of the middle east...against the United States and all of our "close" allies.

Aircraft Carriers, Battleships, B-52s, Nuclear Subs and even Star Wars cannot kill an ideology..

1. to republicans, "democracy" means "pro-us dictatorship"
power will not be turned over to the iraqis until there is a guaranteed pro-us result.

in other words, power will never be turned over to the iraqis. they will remain under "interim", i.e., dictatorial, control indefinitely.
