After another four years of this administration I believe we will set new records for deficits, unemployment and recession, and that the war and destruction will continue. I don't think this country has ever had leaders who are more hell-bent on destroying us from within. They've already demonstrated over and over again that they'd rather live in infamy than build a positive legacy.

Even Nightline (last night) talking about Marshall Law and the suspension of democracy. Matter of factly, "Yes, we'd have to suspend constitutional rights" if there were another big attack.
Yuppers, kids. This one is in the bag, and it is gonna be wicked, wicked ugly. The Bush's won't take being the national 1-term laughing stock again too kindly. It is "unacceptable." Besides, their friends gave way, way too much money. They MUST retain power in order to repay them.

9. I saw Margaret Attwood last night |
|
The author of a Hand Maid's Tale, said in respect to the growing theocracy in the US that " I never suscribe to the statement that it can't happen here"
I thought it was interesting that her assessment of democractic forms of governmentt seem to be supported until people become afraid and will trade civil rights for security.
In the Handmaid's Tale, she said everthing in the book occured in American history at one time or another.
So if the chimp steals another election... well I half fear for Kerry if he does win. If my instincts are right, there has to be more reason to repudiate these NEOCON thugs. Things may have to get really , really bad first.
I will stay here and make the best difference I can.

i have elderly parents, i have health issues -- stay or go -- i really can't say. and by stay, i don't mean in the passive sense. and while many duers talk about staying -- i think they're talking about politics. i'm not so fond of american culture. there are richer, more tactile, sensual, enlightened cultures out there. that's a very personal opinion. feel free to have your own.

have an elderly mother that I don't want to leave right now. However, I am tired of American culture, or lack thereof. I would eventually, no matter who gets elected, move overseas. It would be nice to experience something else.

14. The REAL Lesson of Election 2000 |
|
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 08:53 AM by ulTRAX
The ONLY reason Bush was imposed upon this nation was because we have an anti-democratic Constitution.
You can have 100% voter age turnout... 100% vote count accuracy.... electronic voting with auditable paper trails.... any and all the reforms you want. But because our system weighs the votes of some citizens heavier than others, the vote loser can STILL "win".
DIRECT QUESTION: Would you have been happy if Bush won a CLEAR 20,000 vote victory in Florida... "won" yet lost the national vote by 530,000?

20. and you ACCEPT an anti-democratic system? |
|
And as a citizen you just meekly ACCEPT an anti-democratic system that can produce morally illegitimate government that FAILS to gain the consent of the governed?
If I can get to your underlying assumption... in other words there's NO reason to ever want a government based in basic democratic principles because we must abide by the will of those dead for 200 years?

21. What should or could the German people have done? |
|
Throw in some non-violent, peaceful, guerilla tactics and things would be gummed up for some time.
I'm not so sure because even with the thousands that protested the Iraq invasion, the administration just went along on its merry way as if nothing had happened. Whether Bush is reSelected or elected, the administration will insist that it has a mandate from the people to carry on, and with the Homeland Security and Patriot Act in place there will be mechanisms available to put down any sort of large protests in the future... especially if those protests pose some threat to the "best interests of the American people," namely business and corporate interests.
I wonder what we think the German people should have done to prevent Hitler's rise to power. I don't want to blame them for what they didn't do because hindsight is always 20/20, but knowing what we know now, what could they have done? Whatever that might be, I think that's what we in the U.S. have to do... and the sooner we start the better.
I do think that whatever those things are, they will demand personal sacrifices. I wonder if Americans aren't too "spoiled" to make those sacrifices?

that with all that has happened up to now, that chimpy has any support at all in this country. That is the frightening aspect in all this. With all the fecal matter on the fan he could still actually win this thing. That's why I welcome anyone who opposes the chimp. Until after the inauguration, the enemy of my enemy is my friend.

28. I will urge all to start civil disobedience. |
|
We, the people, will have to take our country back. We can only do this if we disrupt business as usual. My first recommendation would be to stage sit-ins in public buildings so that elected officials can't get to their offices without climbing over a lot of bodies.
This would take a lot of courage because no doubt the police would be called and the sitters would be physically accosted and maybe even gassed. It is also necessary to make sure the press is there or at least someone with a video camera recording events.

My mother is in her 70s and she hates Bush more than anyone I know. She says she has to turn off the TV whenever Bush is on.
If Bush is reselected, I fear my mother's health will be adversely affected.

I think you need to read up of election 2000, specifically how the voters in Florida were 'purged' by Katherin Harris (sec of state in florida) and *Bush's brother Jeb, the florida governor.
I would suggest to google Palast for background on how the 2000 election was rigged.
You might also want to visit www.blackboxvoting.com for information on how the touch sceen voting machines are rigging the elections.
