Heavy fighting in Afghanistan with Dostum's forces http://www.keralanext.com/news/index.asp?id=32571 Islamabad, Heavy fighting has erupted between forces loyal to Uzbek warlord Abdul Rashid Dostum and those of government appointed military commander, Gen. Hashim Habibi, in Faryab province of Afghanistan, Pakistani newspaper Daily Times reported Thursday.
"Dostum's forces have captured Shirin Tagab, Jama Bazaar and Bilchiragh districts and heavy fighting is still going on in the outskirts of all these districts," the paper said quoting Habibi said.
The Pakistan based Afghan Islamic Press (AIP) quoted the governor of Faryab province, Anayatullah Anayat, as saying that Dostum's fighters were advancing on the provincial capital Maimana being only 25 km away and having seized several districts.
"The situation is very bad," he said.
