Is DU being monitored today by external "source" ? |
|
Perhaps it's just my paranoia? :) But, I am on dial-up and I am very aware of changes in download of info, etc. It seems that DU is taking exactly twice as long to download a post as normal this morning - as if it is being downloaded to another location before it comes thru my computer...Anybody else notice anything similar? :scared:

15. It's faster because I have to do some reports -so I turned off the monitor |

Don't tell my boss at the CIA.
Thanks
:-)
Coming back to reality - we are small potatoes - not worth the time - although there was a bit of that last year (both Will and I noticed a few weeks worth of observation - my Kids were all over me since I had not been "watched" in 20 years, and I appeared to be enjoying to too much - showing them how to spot what was going on - I was too "happy" !!!! :-) )

Gotta keep an eye on those whackos. If there wasn't a file on me somewhere I'd feel dishonored. HI PAT :hi:

7. Had that problem all yesterday, ran my Adaware and Spyware and |
|
they didn't show anything. Threads wouldn't download and there were black boxes on some names as they downloaded then it would clear up.
It was strange, but maybe it was just a DU glitch.

8. If they're spying on you, you wouldn't notice... |
|
in fact, a slow down would be more likely due to someone trying to bring DU down rather than spy on it. DOS attacks like that can be done by 12 year old kids just as efficiently as Ashcroft's best goons, anyway.

longer when I log on to come up - but it eventually does.
It is very weird. (I still have a firewall)

You can look at the exact server route your internet connection takes to any site.

13. You would not notice a slow down on dial up |
|
Simply stated dial up has too low a bandwidth to detect any particular scanning from a spy. You would be more likely to notice such a load on a higher bandwidth. And even there a single spy would not provide a significant load on the system.

17. Dial-up users would be the least likely to notice overheads. |
|
That's because a connection on the order of 22-36kbps (typical for a "56kbps" dial-up) is a virtually unavoidable bottleneck on performance. Almost without exception, Internet processes operate at performance levels that dwarf such a connection.
When such a connection seems slower, it's typically because it is slower. Contemporary modem technology negotiates an optimal speed with every connection, and virtually every voice circuit connection has differing bandwidth and noise tolerance.
At the same time, not every POP (the bank of modems into which a dial-up user connects) is comprised of fully operable modems, each fully able to perform the compression/decompression, auto-detection, and negotiation protocols expected. Quite frequently, a POP operator will allocate older modems to "overflow" allocation slots, presuming they'll be used only during high-demand times.
