WV Public Radio listeners..... |
|
BOYCOTT!! I just talked to the programming director, James Muhammed, and asked him why he didn't break from his normal classical music programming to broadcast the testimony of Condoleeza Rice (they also did not broadcast the original hearings in March). He told me that they only interrupt their normal programming for breaking news and nothing else. I'm sorry, but doesn't this testimony qualify for breaking news? This news is vital to the future of our country.
I feel bad for those folks who don't have access to internet or cable. How are they supposed to have access to this? Public radio my ass.

1. I for one would much rather listen to classical music... |
|
then political drivel. The only thing the testimony is going to offer is spin and dodging questions.

however I see it differently. We can listen to Beethoven anytime. Its not as if classical music doesn't make up like 60-70% of their programming anyway. This is 2-3 hours out of one day. You think they would make an exception here.

I guess you and I just approach the subject diffenetly.
Certainly, 2-3 hours one day wouldn't be the end of public radio...if it did indeed end there.
I guess I am really just feed-up with politics, as far as showmanship, and think some political inquiries like this one are going to be more for the questioners to show their base how they will attack the administration, or how they will stick-up for it...it could be that I am now cynical, but I don't see much dirt or new evidence being brought up. Because of that I prefer Beethoven to Rice.
I may come around to you way of thinking if the investigations due lead to something substanitive...and it is focused on evidence and not politicians trying to convincen everyone they have a big set of balls.

8. Agree to disagree, I can live with that... |

thanks for responding.
I agree about the political fatigue. It sometimes weighs heavily on me too. Sometimes wish I was a kid again, so I could be oblivious to this. However, I am a big proponent of being vigilant on political matters.

It's all over the place here...
Some areas have two public stations...one classical, one news. I'm hearing NPR Coverage on WNIJ in DeKalb...one of the stations of Northern Illinois University...the other WNIU, is doing Classical.
But then, would you want to hear all these lies while strapped to a dentist chair???

but others have barely one. I assume it's that way in WV as it is here in Southeastern Kentucky--geography and low population make for lousy radio programming in general, public programming specifically.

5. I was VERY disappointed, too! I'm able to get it only on Ohio Public Radio |

WOUB-FM, on 89.1 FM. Stupid WV Public Radio, claiming that it was all over the TV channels anyway. I am doubtful that I will continue to fund NPR after this.

I'll just stop supporting WV NPR. Their programming is becoming stagnant anyway. Too much classical music, and I LIKE classical music.

9. Oops, I meant WV PR. I called the station, too, spoke to the programming |

director who very blandly told me that they don't stray from regular programming unless it's breaking news. I made the same argument you mentioned above, and said I was VERY disappointed and expressed my anger. I said that, so this testimony isn't important enough? His reply was that they don't make any judgments about what's important and what's not. Inconsistent reply there--they decide on what's important news, don't they? I said this is supposed to be PUBLIC radio, as a PUBLIC SERVICE. No dice. Ridiculous policy. Wonder why they decided that???
Too bad WOUB's signal isn't too strong away from western WV. They have better programming, too.

i dunno if that warrants a boycott, but it definitely would've been beneficial to hear it somewhere on the radio..... i had to leave for school just as it was coming on, and today just happened to be one of those days class was best not to skip.
so, i just caught the very beginning, and the very end.... enough to hear her say at least one incredible and befuddling thing (re: "a response to the cole bombing would've only emboldened al-qaida." yeah, good fuckin' excuse. and they blame clinton for this and say *he* was the one who sat and did nothing when we were attacked?)
