When did Bush go on vacation in August 2001?
Edited on Thu Apr-08-04 12:14 PM by The Backlash Cometh
If the PDB Report came out on August 6, 2001, when did Bush begin his month long vacation?

1. I think he left on the 1st or 2nd
he was on vacation on the ranch when he got the PDB and either he "cleared brush" or "golfed" that morning after he was briefed.

15. I believe that was the day he smashed his thumb while...
doing a photo op, hammerin' nails. That's what he gets for trying to be butch. ("butch" is that sexist?)

7. That would be fitting, but he was already there by the 7th. He got the...
...PDB at the ranch. The article is just dated Aug. 7th.

8. No, August 4th, for sure.
From this CNN story it says "After Saturday's checkup, Bush is expected to board Air Force One on his way to Texas."

August 4th was the Saturday he received his medical checkup at Bethesda and then left for Crawford.

The last public appearance on Bush's calendar was the ceremony for Lance Armstrong on Friday afternoon. (The radio address on Saturday morning is often pre-taped.)

See transcript of ABC news report from August 3:

http://www.cooperativeresearch.org/timeline/2001/abcnews080301.html

August 3:

TERRY MORAN: In Texas, the president will get a daily intelligence briefing, and he's planning one or two side trips a week just to keep in the public eye, but mostly, it seems, he'll do what most Americans do on vacation: nothing much. Terry Moran, ABC News, the White House.

____

August 6, 2001: President gets briefing alerting of Bin Laden ready to attack US.

President, as Moran said, did "nothing much."

5. doesn't matter
they'll spin it that he was on a "working" vacation, having regular/daily meetings with his advisors, etc....all is quite clearly bullsh*t, since he doesn't work while he's in Washington anyway - remember, he was in the RESIDENCE, WORKING OUT when that guy opened fire on the WH at like 11 in the morning!!

6. See my post above
Apart from the PDB, it WASN'T a working vacation no matter WHAT spin the WH puts on it.

We can't let them get away with that spin. He didn't do a THING of substance in the face of great threats.

And, to this DAY, the administration takes NO responsibility.

12. "Working" vacation? "Working" on WHAT?
Certainly not much. Is there any evidence he did ANYthing in Crawford besides have things read to him by various 'advisors'?

If they say "working" vacation--I want to know WHAT he was working on.

Certainly not counter-terrorism; certainly not getting alarmed at the August 6, 2004 memo, that's for sure.

13. I remember they did some fund raising or PR trips
that summer from the pig farm - had some fancy title for it like "Home in the Heartland" or something like that.

They were trying to spin that he was on a working vacation to mute criticism for this record long vacation and that he had spent 40+% time on vacation.

Didn't he also hold that idiotic economic conference filled with Bush supporters in TX that summer? Oh and don't forget he had to think hard on that wacky stem cell policy he developed.

14. "Most of all some rest and time..."
Nothing about security or counter-terrorism.

John King is CNN's senior White House correspondent. He joined the CNN.com chat room from CNN's Washington, D.C. bureau.

CNN: Thank you for joining us today, John King, and welcome.

JOHN KING: Hello and good morning.

CNN: What does President George W. Bush have planned for his vacation?

KING: Most of all some rest and time on the ranch, but there is also a fair amount of work to be done. He has to make his decision on stem cell funding and the White House is debating a fall agenda: not just strategy in dealing with Congress on the patients' bill of rights and spending issues, but also more presidential travel to promote other issues like education

18. good link
now we need to remind people of remarks like this:

"Bush has high personal approval ratings, but people have doubts about his agenda and leadership skills if you look at poll data."
